Well I have the engine at home and now we can start to get down to buisness.
One question to all. If you were to do the job again what would you do diffrently?
As you can tell I am keen to avoid all known pitfalls.
Advice to all those taking a V6 out a 164. getting the wiring out intact can take as long as getting the engine and gearbox out.

Add a zero to every time-estimate you give yourself, no matter how realistic the estimate seems at the time!

Don't throw anything away until the car's on the road. I binned my totally chewed twinc, then realised I needed sender units etc. compatible with the existing instruments. Dur!

Good timing.....

I've got a question too. I've just "dropped" my 12v into my HF3000 (funny how the nearer the car got to the engine the bigger the V6 became and the smaller the chassis looked!). The alternator needs to be relocated as the current position (see Stephen's picture above) will hit the chassis. Are there any OE brackets which can be used to mount it into a different position or do I need to fabricate a new one?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Roger Donnan's design of bracket for this is in the newsletter archive cd rom.

You have the option of mounting it low at the front, where the aircon compressor sits.

Bracketry for this can be found on any non-aircon car, alternatively mount it behind the engine above the driveshaft using a modified power steering pump bracket.

If you want some photos of how this can be done let me know.

I hadn't thought of fitting it behind the engine but it makes a lot of sense. I've just searched the archive CD-ROM and found Rogers pictures in issue 43.

Thanks.
