Hopefully someone out there can help me with the following questions:
Q1:
Does anyone have any pictures of an early Hawk car that has the Flat bulkhead (as opposed to the sloping type) and has converted to the V6 engine. I need to see what else may need to be modified!!
Q2:
I love the gold wheels with the 5 coffin spokes, can anyone tell me what thier name was and who manufactured them?
Q3:
Does anyone know if the aforementioned in Q2 are available for the replicas that use Hawks 5 stud 98 PCD hub conversion, if so where can I buy them? ( I'm UK based but would buy worldwide if need be.)
Many thanks in advance

If anyone has a Hawk with the type of bulkhead that Matt is talking about, can you can take some pictures of it for Matt, please?
You can attach pictures to a message by using the ATTACH FILE function, which is just below where you type your message after OPTIONS.

I have a Transformer (early Hawk HF2000) with the flat bulkehead. As far as I know, the flat bulkhead is the stock part and the sloping bulkhead is an option. As with most Hawk options, you should have no problem upgrading to the sloping bulkhead - just give Gerry a call and he'll fix you up. My price list says the it costs 160 GBP but prices have gone up since then so I'd guess it is about 200 GBP now. I'm keeping the flat bulkhead myself because it works better with the revised roll cage I have to install to rally here in the USA.
I think the original wheels were either made by Campagnolo or Technomagnesio (sp?). They are still available but are really hard to find. I'm not sure they will work on the Hawk 5 bolt hubs but I have seen at least 1 Hawk that had them so I think they probably would. You can get them from http://www.lancia-stratos.de/ but you should expect to pay 1000 USD or more per wheel plus shipping from Germany. If that's too much, Gerry has hooked up with Image wheels and they now make a very nice 3 piece wheel that looks a lot like the original. Seems like these are about 350 USD each.
I'll see if I can post some pics of the bulkhead. Hope that helps in the mean time.
Ciao,
John B.
PS - Doh. I just noticed that you wanted pics of the flat bulkhead and the V6. Sorry but I won't have the V6 for a while yet and I'd guess you already know what it looks like with the TC. Sorry for any confusion I was in a bit of a hurry earlier and didn't read your post as carefully as I should have.

Matt,
I am building a Hawk 2000 with a flat bulkhead, the car originally had a 2 litre twin cam. I have installed the 3 litre V6 without converting to sloping bulkhead the engine still fits.If you are converting to 3 litre V6 the best thing to do is to have a sloping bulkhead this will give you more room for your cooling pipes and alternator. I still have the wooden template I made up when I welded the engine mountings to the chassis if you want it just let me know. You also need to modify your o/s fuel tank and relocate the offside chassis diagonal.
Regards,
Gerry
PS. I have some pictures for but it wouldn't attach for some reason. Why don't you E mail me at gerrymanalo@yahoo.com and I will send them to you.

Gerry,
What changes do you have to make to the fuel tank for the V6 installation? Is the change needed for both 12v & 24v engines?
Thanks,
John B.

John,
I didn't actually modified my fuel tank myself as the original ones were aluminium. I bought a pair from Gerry Hawkridge design for the HF3000. But if you want to modify your fuel tank yourself you need to move the off side chassis diagonal to the right as shown in the picture and then cut the fuel tank to clear the diagonal.Someone has wrote about this in the previous Newsletter unfortunately I cant remember his name.
This is not the only modification you need to convert to V6, you also need to move the brackets that holds the gear linkages and the engine top brace.
It looks like both engines are the same size so it doesn't matter which engine you choose you still need to modify the fuel tank.

Gerry

Gerry - Thansk, I was wondering about that.
Matt - Sorry I don't have the bulkhead picture you were looking for but here's a picture of the replica wheel that you can get from Gerry. They are made by Image Wheels but are not part of their regular catalog. They are available in any width and offset.
Ciao,
John B.
PS - This attach image function is way cool.

Thanks guys - the wheel info is especially handy and the image of the bulkhead is excellent. This has been d/loaded/printed and given to the welder.
Next job is to sort out these Image wheels :~)
I am having the strut welded in so that it clears the alternator and then the fuel tank modified to fit as the bar fouls the bottom half of the offside tank.
I can see this forum being of enormous help - Fantastic job setting it up !!

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered my Image wheels, as in the picture posted up by JohnB (thanks John)
I went for 7.5 for the front and 8.5 on the rear. Tyres will be more than likely 205/50/15 on the front and either 235 or 245/50/15 on the rear.
Just have to wait 5-6 weeks for them to be made and delivered.

You mention that you would look at 205/50 front tyres, which is fine, but can you get 15" tyres in 235 or 245 width?
Seems that most manufacturers go to 225/50 on a 15" diameter and stop there, with a couple available at 285 and 335 width - and these are not easy to get hold of (as those with Group 4 arches tend to find).

My only thought for going 235 or 245 at the back was to get more grip and also protect the rims a bit, if 225 is as wide as manfacturers go then I'll have to go with them.
The config you mention is what is currently on my Hawk, but on 4 stud mini lites - which are about to come off in place of 5 stud Image LS wheels.
