Does anyone know about the car listed on the Blackhawk Collection webpage? A corner of it was in last week's Autoweek, showing it at Pebble Beach. It is listed as a car that will be in the auction in Hershey, Pennsylvania in October. I am interested if anyone kows its history, or any kind of guess as to its value. I do not know if I am ready to bid or not! Thanks, Greg (new to the forum)

Welcome Greg
Here's a link to that web page.http://www.blackhawkcollection.com/pbcars.htm :)
The wheels and steering wheel are not original, and it doesn't have the usual decals on the doors, pillars or rear - Maybe had a respray at some stage? And take a battery with you when you pick it up!

Not clear about the chassis number either, although I wouldn't claim to understand them. Stratos type was 829 ARO ( The 629 given here might be an error). If it is chassis number 3, then it's a 1973, not 1974. Chassis 003 was red with red carpets and black seats though.
Oooh, this new book makes me a real anorak!!:)

Greg,
I can't offer anything with regards to the history, but I can offer a guess as to the value. The last few genuine cars I've seen advertised for sale here in the 'States were between $75,000 and $105,000. The low end represented clean, original cars, and the high end were freshly restored concours material.
That's not to say it might not be less (or more), but I think somewhere in the $80,000 to $90,000 might be a resonable average. Of course, that's just my opinion, and I'm no expert. If the car will be in Hershey, I may have to drive out and take a look at it. No chance that I'll bid though. I could never afford one.
You might want to get in touch with one of our other members. Posts under the name Tryphon. He just purchased a genuine car a few months back, and might be able to give you some idea what the going rate is these days.
Hope this helps.

This is the Stratos I saw in the Imperial Palace car museum in Las Vegas last Christmas. Definately resprayed but it looked to be in good condition. Missing some of the decals and some wrong ones on as well. I wanted to hang around to ask the price but they were kind of busy so I never found out! But it was spooky actually finding a Stratos in the States by accident whilst on holiday!

Thanks, guys, that info helps a lot. I don't know enough to know what I am getting into yet, so the good news is I don't have that kind of money anyway! I may have to learn more about the various replicas. The other good news is I will be in Texas at the annual BMW gathering in my old 5 series, so I can't get to Hershey and lose my mind over a car I can't buy.

There was a GR4 Marlboro liveried car in the Bonhams auction at the Goodwood revival meeting. Does anyone know what it fetched and if it was sold?

Is that price in pounds? Sounds an awful lot especially as some impossible to find bits are missing from that car. Isn't it rather 72000 dollars?
