I thought we'd try a little something different this time...

Attached to this post is a photo that includes 4 cars and 4 drivers. In order to win the game, you need to be the first person to post the correct answers to the following questions:

1. What event is each car picture from (Name & Year)?
2. Who was the driver of each car at the event (Full Name)?
3. Which driver picture belongs with each car picture?
4. Who was the codriver at the event (Full Name)?
5. What was each team's result at the event (Final Position)?

Now, just so you don't think I'm totally sadistic, here are some helpful hints:

All of the car numbers are visible except for the one on the Marlboro car. I'm pretty sure the Marlboro car is number '1' but I have seen it incorrectly marked as number '2' on a die cast model.

All of the rallies are part of the current World Rally Championship series.

No two cars have the same driver or co-driver.

None of the cars were turbocharged.

This one requires a little more digging on your part but you have a lot more information to start with so I think it will be easier than the last one was. Personally, I think the hardest part will be getting the full names of all the drivers & co-drivers right.

Good Luck!

Just a thought - without going to the trouble of trying to answer the questions - this sort of stuff is probably worth reproducing in the S.R.C. Newsletter. Assuming that Mark Chapman reads this stuff, care to try and copy the Trivia questions/photos to create an article?

I thought that pretty much anything that was posted in these forums was fair game for the newsletter anyway. I can send him an email with the picture & text or he can just copy it from here. Either way is fine with me - I'm flattered that you think it's good enough for something like that.

PS - No guesses yet? I hope I didn't make it too hard again. ;)

No guesses so far - Looks like we need some motivation! (It worked last time anyway.) I'm fresh out of Stratos caps but it just so happens that I've been designing some T-shirts you might be interested in. :D

Here's the deal. I'll send one of my new 'Lancia HF' T-shirts to the first person to get all the answers right. In the event nobody gets all the answers right before the 21st, I'll send it to the person who has the most right answers on that date. If two people have the same number of correct answers, the one that posted them first gets it.

The shirts are a nice white 100% cotton T-shirt (made from a good thick fabric) and you can specify your size. The logo is about 10-1/2" across - I'll attach a picture of it below.

If this doesn't get you guessing, I don't know what will. It's really not all that hard - just dig out those Stratos books or start searching for race results online. All you need to do is find something that lists the Livery & Car Numbers for the different races.

Good Luck,

John B.

PS - Please be nice if the shirt design stinks... I'm a programmer, not a graphic artist after all. ;)

Here's an alternate design. I also have the regular Tricolor & HF without the Lancia logo. Any preferences?

Hi John,
I've had a little look around for the pics and drivers for the Trivia 3 questions. I actually found 3 of the 4 photos for the cars in books complete with a list of where/when/who. The Marlboro car I'll be making a best guess as with a few of the driver pics. Here we go

Ist car - Marlboro Livery.
1974 Tour De Corse
- Driver Jean-Claude Andruet
- Navigator Michele "Biche" Petit
- Place - First

2nd car - "Old" Alitalia Livery
1975 RAC
- Driver Bjorn Waldegard
- Navigator Hans Thorszelius
- Place - Disqualified (he did a lot of the event with no rear clip attached)

3rd car - Chardonnet (Motorac) Livery
1978 Monte Carlo (as per the photo I found in Piero Casucci's Profili)
- Driver Bernard Darniche
- Navigator Alain Mahe
- Place ??????
NOTE - the photo shows the door number of "1" - this would correspond with the 1980 Monte where this car came in second). This crew was not entered in the 78 according to Nigel Trows book.

4th car - "New" Alitalia Livery
1976 Monte Carlo (as per the photo I found in Piero Casucci's Profili)
- Driver Sandro Munari
- Navigator Silvio Maiga
- Place First
Note - according to Nigel Trows book the car that won the Monte in 76 wore number 10 on the doors. In 1977 Munari wore the number 1)

Now to the Drivers

1st is Bjorn Waldegard

3rd is Sandro Munari

now comes the guesswork
2nd I put down as Jean Claude Andruet - I found this exact picture in Trows book and it is unlabelled (on his jacket it appears to have the name Pinto who was a works driver in later years)

4th due only to being the only one left would be Bernard Darniche.

Well they are my guesses at this point.
Cheers

Wow - maybe I should be more careful what I wish for.

Sorry I haven't posted in a day or two - been busy with work.

You've got almost everything right so I'll have to take some time to write up a good reply.

Sorry for not replying sooner - I've been a little busy lately.

In a highly controversial last minute surprise decision, I am going to have to give the win to... Paul. His answers were so good that not only did he point out the incorrect information in the books, he also found a mistake that I had made in putting the images together (oops). Of the 20 different things that could be identified as part of the contest, he got 19 correct on the first try! I strongly suspect that the confidence & completeness of his answer is also a big part of why nobody else made any guesses. ;) Regardless, he is obviously a Stratos Geek worthy of distinction.

Here are what I believe to be the correct answers.

Cars:

1st Car (Marlboro Livery)
- 1974 Tour De France
- Driver Jean-Claude Andruet
- Navigator Michele "Biche" Petit
- Place 1st

2nd Car (Early Alitalia Livery)
1975 RAC
- Driver Bjorn Waldegard
- Navigator Hans Thorszelius
- Place DNF (Disqualified)

3rd Car (Chardonnet / Motorac Livery)
1980 Monte Carlo
- Driver Bernard Darniche
- Navigator Alain Mahe
- Place 2nd
* Piero Casucci's book has the wrong year with this photo and possibly even the wrong event. Assuming the event is right, the information above is correct.

4th Car (Late Alitalia Livery)
- 1977 Monte Carlo
- Driver Sandro Munari
- Navigator Silvio Maiga
- Place 1st
* Piero Casucci's book has the wrong year with this photo.

Drivers:

1st Driver - Bjorn Waldegard

2nd Driver - Should have been Jean Claude Andruet but I think it is actually Lele Pinto. Sorry about the mix-up - I should have researched the picture better before posting it. I will dig up a decent (and more certain) picture of Andruet and fix the picture.

3rd Driver - Sandro Munari

4th Driver - Bernard Darniche

I will be making up a batch of T-Shirts this week. Please email me your address & size so I can send one to you ASAP. I'm very happy with the final design and will attach a picture of it below. If anyone else is interested in having one, please let me know.

Ciao,

John B.

I just realized why Paul guessed Tour De Corse - I incorrectly said that all the events were part of the WRC. When I started putting the pictures together, it was my intention to use pics from current WRC events so that they would be easier to identify but I couldn't find any color pics of Andruet and Biche. I really liked the idea of using Andruet/Biche because her real name is not so easy to dig up. Finally I found the pic from the Tour De France but forgot to change the text of the post. I guess that's another good reason not to work on trivia questions at 2 AM.
