View Full Version : Starter wiring

I've done away with the ignition key / steering lock (less to mangle my kneecap on in an accident) and i'm wiring in my starter and ignition switches. Would it be beneficial to have them powered separately, so I can crank up the oil pressure with the starter before turning the ignition on and the engine fires? Any offers?

I think its a very good idea. I use my fuel-pump cutoff to the same effect. If the car's been standing for more than a few days at a time, I prefer the whir of the starter to the clatter of dry (hydraulic) tappets and the thought of all those bearings running dry!

Incidentally, there are several oil filters listed for the V6 and some (but not all) of them appear to contain an effective non-return valve which helps keep the oil up there when standing.

David, any ideas which are the good makes?

What make of filter do people favour?

A good idea for a Beta engine, which has a bad sump design, and so suffers badly from surge, but not really needed for a V6.

I now use a Bosch O305 oil filter (correct for the 164Q4)

I was thinking about the ability of the Accusump to prime the oil pressure before starting, rather than it's anti-surge function. Agreed it's an expensive option but I thought we were all made of money........;)
