This is probably aimed mostly at Gerard (as I know he has a Corse S, although the wishbones are diferent) but if anyone else out there has some solid info I would be really grateful.

To the questions; could anyone tell me what the dimensions for the front shock absorbers are please? I need to know open and closed lengths.

Also, I could do with an idea of what is a sensible amount of vertical front wheel travel on this car.

I am having a bit of bother getting the front set up properly and although I took some dimensions from AndyG's car, I don't think they are directly applicable to what I am doing. :(

My car has early Corse S wishbones using Fiat & Vauxhall balljoints with the 132 uprights.

Chris.
Free lenght of my shock is 415mm between eye bolt holes ( car jacked up) and there is 140mm of rod exposed, so can I assume the max compressed lenght is 275mm. ? if you feel this is not correct I can remove the shock and spring at the end of next week. Leda adjustable shock and adjustable platform.

Gerard.

Gerard,

That's brilliant - thank you. The figure for open length is pretty much what I have arrived at by experimentation. I originally guessed at a 17" (432mm) open length with 11" (279mm) less bump stop closed. I found some clearance problems betwen rack bar and upper wishbone at full droop/full lock though, and another problem (that you won't suffer with your car) is that the top balljoint reaches maximum deflection before the shock is fully closed so I won't be able to allow quite as much travel as you have got on your car.

Given these figures, I feel a bit happier about adding the spacers I calculated to reduce the length and travel of my shocks. With what I guessed at this time, I will have an open length of 412mm and a usable stroke (before bump stop) of about 90-95mm. I hope this is going to be OK but the only way to be sure is try it.

Thanks again Gerard.
