Hello,

I had a first go in the car and what a thrill it was. I've had the opportunity to drive race cars and car much more powerful than the Stratos but I have to admit I was impressed and surprised.

The engine is so loud you can hear nothing else. All the controls, with the exception of the steering, demand effort to be operated, gear changes require concentration and heel-and-toe is imperative to downshift. Exterior vision is extremely limited, gosing the gas pedal is very difficult as its is somewhat on-off at the beginning of its course. BUT WHAT A THRILL!!!

A few questions:

I find the lighting a bit weak is this normal?

What's the use of the small switch between the seats? It has 3 positions.

What's the use of the rightmost switch on the dash? It has 3 dots on it.

As I have no information from the previous owner (he's in the US) is there a way to know whether the car has been converted to run on lead-free gas?

On the exhaust manifold there are small tubes blunted by screws, what are they used for?

Thanks
Tryphon

Glad that the car has impressed and lives up to its reputation.

Re. Lighting - this probably isn't too great from the pair of standard headlamps, but you could consider uprated bulbs (but I would worry about the wiring loom if taking that approach).

Re. tubes blunted by screws - these sound like gas sensor points for setting up the engine accurately.

Re. other points - none that I can answer for sure, so I won't guess!

All the best

The switch between the seats is for the fuel pumps.

Thanks for the replies.
The position of the fuel pump switch, if that's what it is, seems to make no difference. I know the car has two fuel pumps but I think these work in series. Any idea what the tree positions of the switch might correspond to?

Cheers,

The Stratos wasn't a Group B car, so no nitrous....

No no nitrous but plans:

Big valves, new camshafts, 44IDF carbs, teflon bushes, that should be enough to provide the thrills of a lifetime.

Cheers,
