Just a quick one ..

Can someone remind me if these are tack welded into place or just sat "free" on top of the mount?

Engine in this week :D

When we did the engine conversion on my car Matt the cups were tacked in place with the engine sat on the bobbins. The engine was then lifted clear and the cups fully welded with the gussets welded at the same time.

Thanks Guy, the Beta cups were welded in but I wondered if that was because they were sat at an angle.

I didn't do the welding on my last car and couldn't remember if the cups were tacked in, fully welded or sat free.

Bit more welding to do then.....

Cheers

Don't forget to remove the bobbins before welding it or it'll be smelly! :D :D

Guy - no I wont forget to remove the bobbins!

It's just taken over an hour to get the engine in (on my own) with just the one mount fixed in place. Tomorrow evening, wife/baby permitting i'll get the engine lined up correctly and then start marking up and tacking in place the gussets. I'll have the engine out again and weld everything in place properly including the cups.

Am looking forward to being able to move round the garage without tripping over the bloody great V6!

Hi Matt, can you post some pics of the job in hand - i've got this to do as well. Did you go for the bits from Gerry or made your own? If its Hawk stuff any instructions with 'em - i remember someone mentioning the engine height being variable have you selected a height or gone from someones elses positions.

Steve,

I've used the same height as my previous Stradale and I used the bits from Hawk, but it'd be fairly easy to make up the bits yourself.

I have pictures of all this work as it progresses, so thats no problem. PM me with your email address and I'll pop the pics to you direct.

I think maybe there is a little variation on the height, but not much - maybe only 10 - 12 mm or so.

I'm also sorting out my website for this so plan to document the various stages and sections like V6 engine mounts, 5 stud hub conversions, suspension, brakes etc etc. What I did, why I did it that way and what parts I used... that sort of stuff.

Well, the gear linkage bits are £248, plus you'll been the engine mount gussets, cups and bobbins - to be honest I'm not entirely sure what my lot set me back as I bought a spent about £2000 on parts for mine and someone elses car, so there was a little bit of discount thrown in.

I would budget between £325 - £350 for the lot

Oh yeah and the dreaded vat.. :(
