Hi chaps.

I'm completely fed up with the alignment of the Carello nests in the headlamp moulding, I've been working on an template for marking out the holes, cutouts and the position of the loose bracket. It's all so fiddly and you need several pairs of hands (well I did).

The idea is to have a clear acrylic copy of the backplate with the hole positions and cutouts marked, along with engraved lines for vertical and horizontal because as has been noted in another thread (by Guy M, I think), you can't rely on the sides of the pods being vertical when installed. So you fit the pods and adjust their positions using the linkage and then you use this template to get the actual light units straight, if you see what I mean. Proposing to get a small spirit level phial built into it.

Could also do a similar thing for the Wipac or other bowls or nests.

Thought about making this a "Club Tool" available to members to help with their building/rebuilding.

Thoughts anybody?

That would certainly be a help Peter. Took me ages to get mine right.

I did this with a paper template I made using a CAD package. It may help. :)

Mine has plastic bowls with sealed beams pointing one foot in front of the car at one side and two feet at the other, and that's on full beam.

I'm planning on converting to Fiat X1/9 nests and new fibreglass rims at some stage soon, so yes Peter it would help.

Just short of a pair of chrome rings.

OK, I'll carry on with it then. :)

The intention was to make more of it so that the outward projections from the nest could also marked and the centring of the black outer trims be established at the same time. I'll see how it goes and get the laser cutter fired up in a few days' time. Should be quick to make and to alter if I've measured wrongly.
