View Full Version : Wife just backed into my Stratos

I was just sitting indoors minding my own business when "crack" - well that's how it sounded: wife has slowly backed her car up the drive and hit the rear wing.

Amongst other things:

Not a single word of apology (I don't think she's ever apologised for anything in 30 years).
Why was your car on the drive? (for which read - "you shouldn't have left it there")
I saw the car there. (So why on earth keep on going?)

If it had been a Stradale, no problem. I'd like to get rid of the wing, but a Gp4 would look daft without it. The wing itself has a split along the top edge, visible for about 200mm. Need to take it off and check round the screw holes on the rear cover.

Oh well it looks like I'll buy reversing sensors for her car.

Do get a packed lunch or decent service with your washing?

If you get neither of those, I know what I'd do

Bad luck, hope you get it sorted soon.

LOL. Don't think I haven't considered it. ;)

Peter

It seems like you've got nothing but bad news to tell us?

I bet you're fed up?

It's been a bit of a trial lately. But not all bad news Chris. Starting to gather the info needed for the refit - will post lots of questions about trivial details shortly. Looking forward to doing my bit for this car.

However, just prior to this incident, I'd just returned from Micheldever Tyres with a brand new pair of Toyo Proxes on the front. Seem to grip well. This really follows on from last year at Stoneleigh, when Terry Bunn said the tyres that were on the front were the original (Cinturato P7) he had fitted. Thought it time to change. The tyre place I went to first said they couldn't remember when they last saw some of them!

Blimey Peter.
I am almost speechless. take a hammer to her car and see how she likes that

I know how i felt when some snot nosed kid dropped his silver scooter on the nose of my car at the NEC 2 years ago. I guess i would be still in clink had i not been talking to a customer at the time. The little s**t had scarpered when i turned round. Fortunately, it could be touched up reasonably well.

Marriage is a wonderfull thing

Hope you get it fixed soon.

It's not all that bad on the wing itself. Just have to check for damage at the mounting points.

I think this is the first rear end stratos accident I've heard of in recent times.

All other recent prangs have been to the front end (Roger D, Chris R, Steve E, Jerry B), then there was Mr Struthers T-bone incident.

Have I missed anyone out?

Obviously, there was the classic Waldegard RAC rear end incident from 1975, but I guess Peter's car is not that badly damaged.

Well, at least it happened before the new paint job! ;)

Tim, come see my car at Stoneleigh - it lives on the 4 post lift and has to be reversed on... On the odd occaision I have been known to misjudge the distance between the rear spoiler and the garage wall....... Fortunately Airfix Gloss Black seems to be a good match!

The choice is to get within a few cms of the rear wall of the garage or risk the screen hitting the RSJ in the roof as the car goes up, if it doesn't go back really square on the lift it's easy to crack a corner... oops :o :o :o

Eek. That sounds like trouble Guy.
My car has a double garage all to itself :D

Still manage to scuff and chip it though.

Sorry to hear about the incident Peter.

Reminds me of the time Vickie backed the Marcos into the Capri....right loud THUMP it was!! Moved the Capri about 3 feet. Only mark on the Marcos was a slight paint chip but it creased the Capri bumper and pushed it back about an inch. Tough stuff that plastic......

...just don't tell Vickie I told you :D
