I understand that for sva you have to show the engine nr.
Now i know my donor car had an engine change , would that be trouble??
My donor car was registered in 1991, the current engine nr is ARO6412*013104* Doe someone know which year this engine is?

The person who changed the engine ought to have notified DVLA of the new number. It's easy to do as there is a box on the registration document for the car that you complete with the new number and return to DVLA at Swansea. They just change it and send it back. Job done. How is the donor currently registered Pim?

If it turns out your donor V5 isn't correct, simply send it to DVLA with the new engine number. Doesn't matter if the car isn't actually on the road as far as I can see. I did exactly this with my 'donor' Beta. It changed from a 1.6 to a 2l. I only actually had a few parts and a V5 at this point, as the rest of the car had been scrapped. You aren't defrauding anyone, you aren't trying to hide the identity of stolen goods, you're just getting the paperwork straight.
Engine type is right for an early car, number is fairly low as well, so it's not likely to be much later than 92 I'd guess. Could even be 91. Only Alfa could tell you exactly though I think.

Thanks Guy and Chris,
My donor ca is already at the scrap yard, engine is already in my Hawk. I only have the Dutch registration papers of the car, at least copy's of those. The originals are sent back to the Dutch RDW ( same as DVLA i geuss ) when a car is scrapped. I only have the original paper that proves i owned the car.
What is a V5 form??
Would i also need an Englisch V5 form to register in England or would the Dutch registration do?
My donor registration does not mention any engine number at all, just 6 cilinders, 3 ltrs , gasoline and the chassis nr.
Sorry for so many questions but i want to register at the end of the year so have to get my papers sorted and make an appointment i think soon?

Pim,
Its a good idea to keep the original chassis plate when you take the identity from another car. I'm not sure if you have this.
I'm not sure of the Dutch laws regarding scrapping of vehicles, but if your transferring the ID from your donor car then it is not technically scrapped. Only the donor cars chassis is being sent to the scrapyard but the identity of the car lives on, albeit on a kit car.
With my previous car I had:
A Hawk chassis plate with Donor chassis number and engine number.
The original donor Lancia Beta Chassis plate.
A reproduction Stratos chassis plate from Graham Bates that I had stamped with the chassis number from the donor and the engine number of the V6.
That car has just been registered in Italy without too many issues.

There's 2 questions there for the British amongst us - don't know how this affects you.
The engine number is just a number. But it's the one we need for the vehicle registration document in the UK.
For the year of manufacture of the engine, you need different info - on the engine block, behind the starter motor (can be difficult to see) is either a circle or a diamond cast into the alloy, with a number in it. The circle is the decade; the number is the year. So a circle is 1980 something, and a diamond is 1990 something.
And obviously yes, it only dates the block casting; but that's the date that will be "official" for the whole engine, rebuilt from other parts or not. In the UK, it can define the allowable level of emissions, for instance, so an "eighties" block could be a good thing to have!
Best of luck

Hi,
I had engine no. query.. No. on V5 was not identical to the one in the car.
Phoned my local Alfa dealer who was very helpful and confirmed that, to his records, the number in my car was the number it should have been.
He'll tell you what car your engine came from..
All useful and helped persuade DVLA chappy of origin.
However, engine number on my V5 is AK06410 which is just make / model.
So all the effort that went into proving origin was for nowt.
I did have a copy V5 and MOT's from donor Alfa though.
