Does anyone know if the Hawk grey chassis paint is available in spray cans or even if its just a bog standard colour? I'd rather the car not have two different chassis colours on the go!

My current build has had the a*se end sprayed red for some reason, but the front was left grey, so after the welding of new engine mounts is complete I'd like to return it to an original (single) colour.

Its either find the right paint or consider painting the whole chassis black (but thats a whole load of work).

I also discovered one of the locking nuts missing from the rose jointed section at the top of the front wishbone. Looked for an hour through all my boxes of odds n sods - to no avail...

I thought the standard Hawk chassis color was black.

I thought the standard Hawk chassis color was black.

I think they were grey then a bright red. From Safety Devices to the present day seem to be all black.

IIRC the red chassis were the Spyder chassis, then Gerry had the chassis made elsewhere and they were painted grey, now the latest chassis are all painted black.

My issue is that I have a chassis that is grey at the front and red at the back and it looks wrong, before anyone says its not a "cut n shut" ;)

Its the sort of thing that needs to be sorted before the build progresses too far.

My 95 Hawk from Street Steel was/is black, apart from the front, which is now red!

The reason I thought they were grey to start with is because looking at period photos the very first Transformer demonstrator (red Stradale) had a grey chassis.
(I also notice it didn't have a removable cross bar at the back?)

Anyhow, paint?
Smoothrite is available in grey and in an aerosol:

I understood it that the Spyder Chassis was grey - mine is!.

My 87 spyder chassis was grey, then primed and then body colour red. The grey paint had wrinkled and in places surface rust was just starting. I was not too struck on grey.

I think I'll have to go down the grey smoothrite path and hope that its not a million miles from the original grey.

I know I'm a fussy git sometimes (so my wife keeps reminding me) but I can also foresee the questions when the car is built...."so why did you paint the chassis grey at the front and red at the back?" after a while I get bored with Q's like that ;)

Matt, if your not in a screaming rush I've to take my car round to a local paint manufacture to get a sample made. Apparently the bloke can colour match, from a sample, new paint, either brush on or aerosol. If your intrested let me know. I'll take mine round when it's not so cr*ppy out!.

Cheers

Bob.
