View Full Version : Chrome window trim?

Hi,
Been trying to find someone to fit a replacement window, and one person says he did a Strat replica in the past and asked if I had the chrome window trim. I honestly can't ever remember seeing a car with chrome trim, and told him I was happy with just a rubber seal.
Have looked at a few pictures and still can't see any chrome trims. Did the originals have one?
Cheers,
- Richard

Possibly an unpainted ally trim piece - usually black. The screens are bonded in on both originals and replicas.

Richard,
I had my screen reseated/resealed last year, so am familiar with the screens.
I think what your Windscreen man is refering to is the ally trim that is/was used on the Hawk (assuming thats what you have) around the edge of the apeture.
I used Old School Windscreens in Egham, Surrey - Rob the owner has actually built a Hawk and it was him that did my Stadale in early 2007.
Top quality workmanship!

Grahan Bates can supply the ally trim to finish off the install...

Cheers for the info. He seemed quite insistent it was chrome, which was a pretty usual look for the 1970's so it sounded believable.
The one part of my car that was never finished was the front screen, so the screen is bonded in place but without any proper trim. I presume my Corse is supposed to have this ally trim piece same as a Hawk?
I figured if I am replacing the screen (it has always had a crack at the bottom) I may as well get the trim properly sorted at the same time.
Have seen Graham mentioned in similar threads in the past, just trying to get it straight in my head exactly what I need. Is there anything as well as the ally trim? Graham seems quite local to work too.
I must have seen loads of cars over the years both original and replicas, but I can't believe the details I have learned in the last few months! :)

Nope, nothing else needed, just a screen and the pieces of trim for the screen surround. Corse / Hawk are the same (screen wise).
Grumpy (Graham) can supply them - but phone him rather than email him!

Grumpy will be able to make a one off trim for a corse, certainly not the same as a Hawk.

I stand corrected then.:p
So whats different - I was under the impression that as the screens could be fitted to both versions - whats different on the Corse???

lol, not phoned Graham yet but was assuming he would know the Corse details anyway.
On a practical note, is the trim usually painted before or after fitting, or supplied painted?

The screens can't be interchanged successfully. I think the problem is with the curvature at the top.

Screens are different shapes. Inches different. John & I offered up a Stuart Foster's Corse screen on my Hawk to settle the matter finally.

Wasn't the Corse moulds taken off a battered Strat where the n/s A post was slightly off? Gerry used a customer's Strat he was "refurbing"

Allen,
that is ancient history, and not representative of what the Corse is today.
Steve Greenwood commisioned his own tooling for the Corse windscreen, which although different to the Hawk screen, is still perfectly symmetrical, and we still use that today. The Allora moulds were taken from the battered CF car as I understand it, but the current Corse moulds are third generation and very soon we hope to move to a fourth generation of moulds producing gel coat finish panels.
