Chris,
It is imperial... Standard imperial union.. Can't remember if this is 7/16", but this sounds about right.
Just fitted one of these servos and first time round EVERY fitting on the servo leaked. Then depression set in !
It's not the union that's the problem, but the flare type. It's an SAE flare.
Most flaring tools flare to a DIN standard.
I initially used a simple, cheap flaring tool... Car Builders Soultion and Frost do this unit. It produces a DIN flare, but a fairly shallow one. I think this would not seat because it was shallow.
I then did a bit of internet research and decided I needed a more bulbous flare. I'd borrowed a Sykes Pickavant professional unit a couple of years ago when I did the pipes originally on the car. It wasn't available when I needed hence the CBS unit.
I waited for it and re-made all the pipes. Nice bulbous flare, same unions. All OK first time with little more than finger tight and a bit more.
This was my experience... could be B__llocks, but worked for me.

I'm 99% sure you will find it is a 3/8" union. I fitted one a while ago to a another type of kit car & it definately wasn't 7/16"
I don't know what flare was on the pipes (I think they were done with a Sykes Pickavant tool also) but I had no problem with leaks
& the servo works very well (almost too well). The installation had a std Jag m/cyl & Ford brakes.
