All,

Lots of threads that mention batteries, but no detail, except one reference to a Varley Red Top. My measurement suggest the battery should be no bigger that 200x175x175 to fit the Hawk tray

A trip to my local Halford suggested that the 164 uses a 540 cranking Amps battery, but this is far too big to fit in the battery tray.

They do one that rates at 480 Amps, which is pretty much the right size. I am assuming the difference in cranking Amps is not a problem.

Anyone have any other detail I should consider before making my purchase?

We usually take a lot of the ancillaries off the motor - e.g. aircon pump, PAS pump, so that should make it easier to crank. I use a Red Top.

Chris thanks for the reply. Good point that it doesn't have to crank as hard with all the bits removed. Noy overly concerned by weight, but will look into the Red Tops as the Hawk tray isn't exactly the studiest piece of engineering.

Regards and have a great New Year
