Hi,

The good news is that repeat SVA was over in an hour and no problems.

Went to DVLA Sheffield (my nearest) to be told that the car did need inspected and that Sheffield was not my local office... Leeds was.

Off to Leeds to be told that I needed to take the car to VOSA (remember I've just come from their) to check chassis and engine number details (1st two thing done at SVA).

To run salt in the wound, I was advised that, even thoigh it was a pre booked appointment, I could not drive the car there and would need to trailer it. At this point I opted for the home visit, albeit with a likely 2-3 month wiat.

At this point I was checking engine details to V5.

Stamped on car is:-

AR06410*005849*

V5 states

1640430005849

The last 6 digits are the same, so it looks like this is the original engine.
I'm puzzled as to why the start of the numbers differ.

Does anyone know if this is right, and why the difference.

So far, so good.

Andrew

Andrew,

I too couldn't understand why the VRO wouldn't accept the VIN etc as checked at SVA...but then realised that they are looking for different things. Doesn't excuse the total lack of joined-up thinking, but sort of explains it. End of the day, we have to jump the hoops. FWIW, I was allowed to drive to the VRO for the inspection, but it does vary from VRO to VRO and trying to argue the point is a waste of breath. You almost get the impression that each VRO is an independant franchise!

Re the numbers, the one as stamped on the block indicates both version AR06410 and number, whereas the number they choose to put on the V5 is car model, option, plus engine number. Mine was the same, although when doing engine swaps since then, I've always put down the number as stamped on the block.

A 6410 is the early version of the motor. 6412 was fitted to slightly later cars. Only minor detail changes - nothing of import.

Congrats on the SVA.

Thanks Chris,

That puts my mind at rest. I phoned Alfa and they confirmed the engine number was correct, but could not explain the difference on the V5.

Thanks for the input.

Busy fitting roof and rear spoiler.. lowering suspension, changing wing mirrors etc... All the things just done to get through SVA. Great feeling after 4 years. Looks great in the garage.

Aiming to take a few pics and attempt to download.

I also have a letter from Gerry stating that the side widows are polycarbonate. I'll scan it in and e-mail to anyone who wants to hold it for the club. Alternatively, just drop me a pm and I'll e-mail to anyone who wants it.

Cheers

Andrew
