Hi,

Weather forecast for tomorrow morning is awful. Side windows are staying in for the test.

I've printed the SCA letter off (from the photo gallery), but it doesn't print out that well.

Does anyone have a better copy / file image that they could send / fax to me??

SVA is in Oldham... Anyone used this test station before??

Cheers

Andrew

Can't help on the letter front i'm afraid. Send Gerry an email, he should be able to help.

Best of luck with the test tomorrow ;) Oh, can we have some pics please?

John.

Andrew,

I've got a .pdf copy here on my computer I can email to you if that is any good. It is photocopy of an original letter, but I used it to get me through SVA. PM your email address and I'll send it over.

Cheers,
Chris

SVA manual says failure for window wholly or partly on either side of driver's seat not made of safety glass to a recognized standard.
Not sure if the letter will satisfy the requirements nowadays. I guess you have to convince the inspector they are side screens rather than windows.
Is it better to go without them and fit afterwards....?

As far as I'm aware the rules haven't changed - the letter won't be accepted, and neither will the perspex side windows. Plus the driver side wing mirror has to be adjustable from the seated position, and no-one has ever allowed perspex side windows to go up and down due to the scratching they suffer (it used to be OK to fit them and lock them closed, which I tried, and to fit electric mirrors, which I also tried, and failed all round).
So it seems the only way is to arrive with no side screens fitted. You don't have a problem with the mirror adjustment, and if they're not fitted, he can't fail them.
But it does mean a bloody awful drive there and back, and another strip/rebuild of your doors.
The "wholly or partly" is there so that you can't fit them then claim to have locked them in the "open" position so you can get at the mirror.

Certainly that's what I had to do at Heywood centre in 1999, and there was a fair amount of discussion along these lines in the next couple of years, leading to the same conclusion.

Hi,

Gerry at HAWK eventually found his copy and faxed it through to me the aft... Panic over for just now.

I would go without, but the weather forecast is not good.. On re-test if it's needed i'll drive over and remove there and stick ina "support vehicle".. i.e My wife and her car!

To add insult to injury it looks like the engine is using water... no obvious signs of leakage or water in oil, but I do get more water coming out of the left hand exhaust pipe (looking from the back) when it first starts.... Can't believe that this is normal??

It could just be air working it's way out of the system, but that sounds too optimistic to me.

Heh Ho.

hi there,
took my Hawk there in march 2006 along with the required letter
Did not have a problem with the 'side screens' or an ordinary mirror
as i could slide the window down and adjust it from a sitting position in the drivers seat.

The only problem that I had was with the speedo readings.
In the end my car was right and the rollers at the test station were wrong.
We finally resolved the issue by having my car followed down the road by a
test station vehicle to justify and track the speed!!

Good luck!!
When its passed strip it down and do it properly as the car is supposed to be.
