Another question for the Stratos Anorak....
I was planning on using riv-nut type fasteners for attaching the interior panels in my car, rather than self-tappers, and need to know how many I should order. Could anyone tell me how many fasteners were used in the following locations on the original Stratos:
1) Leading edge of dash where it attaches to the lower edge of the windshield frame.
2) Inner door panel to door outer, each side.
3) Door tray to door inner panel (if screws are used in lieu of pop-rivets)
I was looking for the correct counts here for the sake of authenticity. Also, if anybody knows what type of screw would have the correct look, please let me know.
Thanks,
chris.richard

A source for this information might be the Tavola book, which contains the exploded parts diagrams for the original. I sold mine to John Rutter; you could try and cadge a scan of the appropriate page off him, or you can buy them from Omicron. www.omicron.uk.com

The number of screws used and their placement largely depended on whether Gianni or Toni was on the production line that day and how much Vino they'd had the night before or at lunchtime!
My recommendation is to use as many as you think look neat and are needed to keep the panels in place. I used five to hold the dashboard in place, evenly spread. The problem with the dash is using screws or cap head bolts that are so long that you can't remove them with the screen in situ! I always recommend using captive nuts as it makes dismantling later easy, if you grease everything first. Rivets tend to be pretty final. The door panels were attached in the same way, I started with a fastener in each corner and then spaced the remainder evenly around. From memory there are a further four up the rear edge, three along the bottom, none at the front and one on the sloping top part. Once I had finalised the positions of the inner door panels I then built up the edges to match the stepped trimline around the inside of the door for a neat appearance. The whole lot was then flock coated. Same approach to fitting the bins, two self tappers this time front and back with enough spaced evenly along the bottom to keep the whole lot together. The bins take quite a strain as they are the natural things you pull on to close the door so make sure you have enough for a permanent fixing.

...another question for the Anorak:
In the pictures I've seen of original Statos, there's a little bin underneath the dashboard on the passenger side. I assume this is a glovebox or map pocket. Anybody know about how big this thing is?
I recently saw a picture of a set of Lancia Beta series 1 map pockets, and they appear to be the same shape. I just didn't know whether they were the right size. Can anybody comment?

Unfortunately its not a part that was taken off the shelf and fitted to the Stratos, it's another fiberglass moulding. I made one using aluminium to get the correct looking profile for the opening and guessed the depth! Moulded it in fiberglass and trimmed it in Alcantara as per the dashboard. If you look closely at a picture of the dashboard you will notice that there is a slight cutout in the bottom edge to fit this into. Gerry didn't bother leaving this little detail in the moulds along with a few other differences on the dashboard/binnalce!

Guy,
You wouldn't have the dimensions for that scratchbuilt pocket of yours, would you?

Guy,
that is one of my favorites as well for next winter. If you have any dimensions or sketches it would help a lot.

The diagrams don't show the screwholes or number of screws, as requested in an earlier message, but I think it shows the 'glovebox' being discussed in other messages - unless that is the heater control panel.

Hi All, I will be looking at the car this weekend and will take a tapemeasure along but please don't take whatever numbers I post later as being accurate! They will be from my home made one that I built from photographs/books showing a real one!
