Think heart would suggest the 308. Seems a good price and looks in good nick. Although all that glitters........

I can see how awful the Karma is in the photos and I have seen one close up.

That's actually a nicely built one, but it wants painting black and all the Ferrari badges thowing in the bin.

I had a GT4 so I can't understand why you'd want anything doing a bad job of pretending to be a Ferrari for nearly as much or (in the case of MR2 and Fiero 355 reps) a lot more money?

Definitely one of the better Karmas to judge by the photos, and not containing the weedy VW engine normally found.

Got to be the 308 though. Looks good in the pics anyway.

No question for me. 308 any day.

It was an attempt at vicious sarcasm. Yes of course, the 308 every time, and I think I'd rather have a 400i Auto with flat tyres than an MR2 based "looks-a-bit-like-a-355-from-a-long-way-off-if-you-squint-a-bit" car.

I'm trying to think of a Ferrari replica that cuts the mustard? I don't mean Ferrari replicas based on other Ferrari chassis. (Favre GTO etc.)

the Ferrari replica that I always felt looked the part was the daytona (miami vice) if any one remembers! at least it had a jag v12 normally

You've just jogged my memory. The Daytona Spiders are good, but because the real ones are fairly rare, you can bet you're life if you catch a glimpse of one it'll be a Jag powered rep. I did see a full coupe version at the See Red festival a few years back. It kept me guessing until I saw the Compomotive wheels. If it had Daytona rims (which are available new) I just wouldn't have twigged.

The only Fezza rep that ever caught me looking for more than a couple of seconds was 250 GTO rep based on a 240z I think. It obviously wasn't real but was nicely done.

365 gtb/4 for the 'daytona', 365 gts/4 for the spyder, 365 gtc/4 for the Pinninfarina coupe and 356gt4/4 for the PF saloon (later to become the 400i).

I know what you mean Rob. Some of them really go to town with all the details, but I'd much rather have a 240Z. Especially with its rally heritage? They still have 240Z doors/roof/winscreen etc., they're just a 240Z with different wings etc. 'Wouldn't keep you guessing like that Daytona with a roof that I saw.

My trimmer had a genuine daytona coupe in last time i visited. I was only popping in for ten minutes and finished up there for a couple of hours. :)

I called in to see my local stainless exhaust man recently and he had a 250GTO and a 250 Lusso in having brand new systems fitted. Apparently, one of his customers has a collection of 13 Ferraris. (Git ) There was also a de-Lorean in the corner. Never mind.

Chris, it would have to be the real thing every time, at least, in that price range anyway. ;)

I read an article about the cars of Miami Vice years ago - I think it might have been in an issue of "Popular Mechanics" magazine. The Daytona they used was based on an early 80's Corvette chassis, and I'm pretty sure it retained the Chevy engine.

I'd imagine the Daytona replicas on your side of the pond must be something different - I haven't seen a lot of older Corvettes in the UK to use as donor vehicles.

As an aside, the Testarossas in Miami Vice were genuine in the close up shots, but for stunt work, they used a DeTomaso Pantera that had been reskinned in TR bodywork.

Scott

This is the one with the roof, that I mentioned earlier in the thread:

It seems there are only one or two compared to the many spider replica versions.

Seem to recall Gerry had a Daytona replica for a while. Think it was one of the Southern Roadcraft (SR) cars:
