At a guess I would say your quite a young person but I may be totally wrong anyway I would think most regular users of the forum would say yes.
Awesome Group B rally machine spaceframe chassis and kevlar/glassfibre bodywork based roughly on the shape of a Delta.
Mid engine 4 wheel drive with a supecharger and a turbo, Power good for 600bhp it is said but ralled with anything between 450 and 650 bhp depending on who you talk too. Made a bit of a mokery of the Metro 6R4 at the time. Needed a real class driver to get the most out of it and sadly one of the very best died driving one. Henri Tovinon (wrong spelling I think) This was one of the reason's Group B cars were outlawed at the end of 1986
Great years in rally terms
Hope this helps

Hi,
Not as young as you think... just never realised that the Delta progressed into an S4 in the same era as 6R4 Pug T16 etc.
The reason I mention it is that the garage that set up the suspension for me has a road going S4 tucked in his loft... Being stored for someone. Less than 700Km on the clock. Seemingly needs cam belts changed before it's fired up again. The owner can't find an experienced someone to change the belts and so it lies un-used, but at least not getting rusty... It sits in the loft amongst other stored and stranded cars... Ferrari, E-Type plus many more much older than I don't know... A fair old collection.
It's amazing what's kicking about not used.

Hi Andy, Tell him to contact the David Sutton Museum. They have 2 Lancia S4, a Stradale and a competion car. They should be able to provide details of the place that looks after their cars and the 037.

For more recent S4 action, look for Bruno Ianniello on youtube, all white delta S4, utter madness
Oh if ever that lottery ticket came up...............

Correct me if i am wrong but i heard a story that Markku Alen circulated round a Grand Prix track quicker than an F1 of the era ! cannot remember the track though.
The quickest rally car i ever saw was the above chap and car on the RAC at Donington Park going in and out of "the Loop" (old hairpin)..... i can only say he was AWESOME !!..... nothing was quicker

Hi Phil. I know the tale you talk of, it was Estoril in 1986. His time in a dry test would have been good enough for 6th on the grid in 1985, but qualifiying was wet that year!.
Still, they were only 5 seconds off the dry times so still pretty amazing!.
Bob.

IIRC the Estoril feat was Toivonen, not Alen

The S4 preceded the Delta 4WD by a couple of years. I remember it's debut on the '84 Lombard RAC - against the Metro 6R4 and RS200. Won first time out of the box! Incredible machine!

It was 1985 Guy. When rallies were still exciting?
Markku was flat strap on tarmac tyres on the bottom 'straight' at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough. He hit a big puddle, did a full 360 and didn't hit anything, and it's not the widest road? I remember the gasp of the crowd.
It seems like rallying has been going downhill since 1987?
Does rallying have the same awe factor for a 2007 schoolboy that it did for a 1970s one?

I doubt it, with two, maybe three drivers capable of a win at each event it lost it's appeal a long time ago. Give me the Roger Albert any day!.
