View Full Version : Sva Mot Insurance Registration

hi,

I've got all of this ahead and it seems a minefield. Insurance is such that you can get a limited period of insurance on a chassis number:-

MSM 2 weeks
Osborne 1 week
Adrian S Flux 30 days

This gives cover to drive to MOT / SVA etc, but should you not get a registration number to the insurance company within the given time the policy is nulified and you have to start again (with cancellation penalities).

I want to put miles on the car, and the Adrian S Flux quote seems to give the most flexibility.. However, even if I did pass the SVA, I can't believe that i would get a reg number inside the 30 days..

Anyone found a way through this?
Can anyone give me any timescales to register??

Car just been to the garage to get suspension set-up and lights done etc.. All went well, although I'm told I had the front upright on the wrong sides... I'm sure I had this right, but hey ho. garage owner was very impressed with the way the car drove post set-up.. I'm please with this cause he's got a decent "exotic car" pedigree. Get the car back tomorrow and looking forward to a drive with wheels pointing the right way and the windscreen properly fitted.

Hi Andy,

My own experience, for your reference was as follows,

I insured the car during the build with Footman James. All they asked was that when I got a reg. number, I let them have it.
This wasn't a limited time policy, just a normal annual insurance-about £290 if I remember correctly. This then ran until renewal with the reg. number added mid term.
Obviously you wont need an MOT although I, like you did take it to a test prior to the SVA for piece of mind.
From the SVA pass day to getting registration and fitting plates only took me 3 days! ;)
Just keep EVERY receipt you can and when you go to your local VRO office, take everything with you. Depending on their wishes, they may insist on the car being inspected, that could take several weeks to arrange. In my case, they were happy with all the documentation I took with me and issued the reg. there and then. :D
Really depends on your local VRO office. As I understand it, Nottingham are pretty switched on to this.
Best of luck.

Hi,

Just got a quote.. more expensive, but can issue a further 30 day cover note, so beginning to sound like a fit.

Thanks for the tip..

With regard to receipts, I've not been that clever with this.. I'd rather forget how much it cost and certainly don't want the wife to see how much!!
I've not kept many... how big a deal do you think this will be??

I would say that the less you can account for, the more likely they will insist on an inspection. Not that big a deal, just a frustrating delay. I take it you have got a V5 log sheet from the donor car???
As long as you have used 2 major components from that car (ie engine and gearbox) then you should avoid the 'Q' plate and be able to opt. for an age related plate.(provided the engine number matches of course)
