Looks likely I'll have to pull out of the Wales event this w/end. I think I haven't left enough time to get the car ready.
Have to sort the handbrake (that will be OK), change oil and bits and bobs but now the indicators have packed up completely (playing up before this as well). No wiring diagrams, and Hawk loom  so all's not at all well. Trying to find the prob but I think it's too much to do outside, esp if it rains and can't work in poor light - eyesight no longer up to it.
If you think you might be able to take my place, then PM me. I'm not promising anything and am going to try my damnedest to make it. Cost you £180.
Not going to check the inbox for a while though - need all the time I can get outside.
Bollox.

That sounds like a real shame Peter. Wish I had not pestered you to come to Elvesham Heath and David Sutton. Sorry mate.
I am sure that someone has got some Hawk wiring diags and can offer advice. I guess the oil change could be postponed???

Not your fault Tim and the David Sutton thing was really good.
Had to trace the wiring and wire in a different flasher unit - an electronic one so had rewire the plug and provide a ground. It's OK now.
Flushed engine and changed the oil - no pressure. Not looking at all good. Think the oil pump must be sufficiently worn not to be able to prime. Unless I can get the sump off tomorrow with the gasket undamaged, change pump for the uprated on from my old engine as well as the splined drive it's all up for me now.
Still need to fix the brakes...
Might have some help from my boy but none from the wife in any way at all. Right, off to do the food shopping.

Peter
Is the oil pressure gauge the electric type or capilary ??.... even with a worn oil pump you should get some pressure...... don't give up yet !..... we can always tow you round !
Cheers

It's electric Phil, but there's nothing on the gauge and the warning light on a separate sensor is also on. Hope this isn't the result of using Forte engine flush having dislodged some major muck. Don't think so - the pressure gauge sensors are right at the start of the oilways. Just don't think it's picking up.
A tow sounds like a good idea right now. :) Going out now to lift the car right up and get under...

Cancel the offer. We have indicators, handbrake (of sorts) and oil pressure (looks to have been duff oil pump - just worn out I reckon). :D
For those who are interested, I can confirm that the twin cam sump will not come off with the engine completely in situ - needs to be lifted at the timing belt end by two or three inches.
If it all goes you-know-what tomorrow am, will be coming in my Nissan  or the boy's VX220. Either way I'll be there.
Hooray and sigh of relief.

Well done Peter :)
Just got the punto MOT today - it failed
Needs 2 rear shox, cv gaitor and some welding. The garage wants £330 to do the work. Pleased to say that the Strat has tip-toed through 3 MOTs without issues so far aprt from the bloody handbrake for the first year. That is now sorted after a lot of effort.
See you all in Wales boys :D

I ought to acknowledge the time and work put in by my son on the car today. couldn't have completed it without his help.
Shame about the Punto, Tim. Still not bad for another year on the road all things considered.
