I've a lickle problem at the mo and I'd like to see if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I'm fitting engine management to a Lancia Thema 8.32 and need to fit a timing 'system'. The std engine came without a timing wheel and the common approach appears to fit a timing wheel/sensor to the crank pulley. However, the crank pulley on my fizzer is already huge and although there will be plenty of space to fit a wheel, riging a sensor the provide an accurate reading might be more of problem.

Therefore, I'd like to turn my attention to the flywheel which already has a couple of timing lugs and a neat sensor position within the bell housing.

As I understand it timing wheels using something like 32 teeth minus 1 (or 64 teeth minus 2), correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been to two local engineering shops where the first wanted to charge £250 for drilling the 32 holes within the std flywheel and fitting suitably machined pins. The second has come in at £65 for taped holes but thinks the pin would be better sourced off the shelf as making them won't be cost effective.

I've also sent an email to Farndon Engineering (Coventry) who I understand made a brand new, replacement Alfa v6 flywheel incl ring gear, lightening for a Tilton racing clutch for just £150.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom that'll help or console me?
