I got carried away writing this up in the Buy-Sell section. I think that the Kappa donor is a worthy topic.
One great source for a donor engine is the Lancia Kappa, they are VERY cheap. A quick search found a 3.0 1997 Kappa with 100,000 km for € 1990. The Kappa used the Alfa 24V engine with Lancia scripting! However, most 3.0 Kappas have automatic tranmissions. Converting an engine from automatic to manual transmission usage requires swapping in a manual flywheel. Also, the rear mount for the carrier shaft needs replacement. In theory, an engine with an auto transmission has not been stressed much. PLUS, the Kappa 3.0 used four pot Brembo calipers. Requires, 16 inch wheels, if you can stuff the Brembo calipers under the Stratos vintage looking wheels....
I really hate to suggest the death of a Kappa. Yet, breathing life into a Stratos has to more than offset the crime.

Sando has a 3.0 Kappa in the back of his Hawk, seems everybody wants that Plenum chamber!!
Also, If the brembo's are the same as the 20v fiat coupe, then they should fit under Hawk's 15" coffin spokes.

These calipers all look alike, probably just a script or color difference. Yet, the part numbers are different. However, some of the caliper hardware, clips are different. I have seen these four pots used on the Kappa, 166, GTV and as mentioned Fiat coupe. From what I know the rotors are 305 to 310mm. Excellent to know that usage with the coffin spokes is possible.
I am not certain that all 3.0 Kappas have the four pot Brembo binders. So, please confirm before making a remote purchase.

i can confirm that 3.0 166 brembo's fit inside Hawk's coffin spokes on a 285mm disc, just!

Okay, I understand now. The 285 mm 164 discs are the way to go. Also, the hubs and discs from the Kappa/166 use a 108 mm PCD rather than the desired 98 mm PCD.

Yep Kappa engine is fine, less powerful than an Alfa 24v, with a two stage (smaller overall) twin throttle body and also needs an aftermarket ECU really to get around immobiliser and auto loom issues. May possibly work with a standard Alfa ECU but with the throttle being a different set up I'm not sure.
I'm also very glad I didn't have all the pain of converting it to a manual, or it may have not been worth all the hassle. Chris Richard will tell you how much of a PITA that is on a 24v...
The Brembo fourpots will no doubt be very similar to the Integrale Evo, Fiat Coupe etc and GTA brembos. They will fit a 284 disc and go under a 15" rim, not sure if the bigger discs would. you also need a pretty big 'back space' in the wheel dimensions to fit the width of the caliper. I've got a lovely set of Evo brembos with Lancia cast on them but unfortunately they won't fit behind either set of wheels I have, even with big 17mm spacers on one set.......
 one day...

There are enough cam belt failed Alfa ones that you could get the throttle body/plenum/ecu/engine mounts and use the rest of the Kappa. Not sure why you would though, unless you happened to have one lying about.
You could no doubt graft the Alfa throttle body mounting onto the Lancia plenum for the logo effect.

or mill out the alfa logo and glue a lancia one on ( see Mr Struthers :) )

As you say it's all possible...but is it worth it? I dunno..I probably wouldn't.
You could just as easily mill off the Alfa logo or even use an early black plenum with no Logo if you really wanted to not have the Alfa badge. I think the cambelt /oil pump change and water pipe outlets are just as important and so any of the later engines are a good choice in my book.
I think if my Kappa engine blew up I'd just swop it for the latest engine I could afford and even then if I could afford it I'd like to put throttle bodies on and do away with the plemum anyway.....
I would be all green about it though and recycle my plenum to someone else who wanted the Lancia logo though of course ;)

Got one of each in my hands (thanks Pim)
Lancia twin sequential total area 33 sq.cm. Alfa single 43 sq.cm.

Two of em would work very well on a twin plenum setup.
