Took 4 years a lot of effort and sacrifices, needs a few minor things here and there but it's basically done:

Wow, super detailed pictures, looking good.
Good luck finishing the car, look forward to pictures of the finished car and youre first experience in the rally with that car.

Cheers,

That's a wonderful photographic record Tryphon - a really valuable resource for us replica owners. Thanks so much for the link.

Hope the rest of the work goes well and that your first outing is all you wish for.

Excellent pics and I'm sure there's more too.... Pity the forum's gallery is OOO :(
Some questions though.... I like the cut away decking of the rear end of the car...I know this has been done on reps but to this extent? Is this feasible on a rep rear...saving weight and improving cooling??
Also the subject of headers and the inter-linking pipes was discussed in an earlier thread. Is this something that would benefit an Alfa 24V???

If the lightweight bodywork is still rigid enough with that amount cut away, then the replica panels will be. Certainly Gerry's are more substantial than the originals.

Stradales have very heavy sections front and rear made by Bertone.
Group 4 cars used lightweight bodies by TIR which were refused on Stradales due to their price. TIR was a company in northern Italy that was also providing panels to racing Ferrari cars. The weight difference is huge as a single person can easily carry the complete rear body section, far from being the case with Bertone's version. No rigidity issues.
Regarding the headers the principle can be applied to any internal combustion engine. It would however require a lot of experimenting to find the appropriate positions and hole sizes. My mechanic manufactured a copy for his 246GT and immediately noticed the difference, his is however a Dino engine.

Hi Tryphon,
I noticed on the picture from the underside ( on which you see the cooling pipes ) that there is a small double tube running from the back to the left front arch. Is that the oil cooler?? If it is are you not afraid it will be damaged it looks vonerable??
Thanks,

That my dear friend are tubes supporting a light, not part of the car. No particular danger...
Remember the Stratos runs a water to oil heat exchanger, no oil cooler per se and the whole tubing is located in the engine area.

:o Should have a better look next time, although i have seen these kind of oil coolers on other cars ( transmission coolers?).

Another question, dont know if its asked before, but:
Is the Strato's steering rack used on other cars or made for the Strato's only?

AFAIK Stratos only. 2 versions: Stradale (3.3 turns l2l) and Group 4 (2.5 turns 2l2).

Really enjoyed the pics Tryphon, It's good to see the bare bones of an original car in group 4 trim. :)

Thanks.

Has anyone cut the rear deck away to this degree? There must be merit in weight saving and cooling?

The only thing you'll lose is stiffness of what's left.

This is the Stradale standard:

And this is what's left on mine.

I click on the link to Tryphon's car and get the message:

"web page cannot be found"

Anyone else have this problem? It's so frustrating :(

You can just make it out in the background. :D

You need to stare at the right hand end of the roll of paper. It takes a while.

I don't have the option to cut a big hole, unless I fit louvres:

I could park my car next to yours and nobody would be able to tell them apart. Is that a good thing, I have never thought so but that is your choice which I respect.
