I am trying to fit the top part of the Gr 4 dash,
does this need a lot of modifying ( in my case there is a large gap towards the windshield part and it does not fit nicely into the small half moon part) .......

......and what is its ideal position ( forward or reverse ) towards the dashes vertical part ( distance from the edge of the top part towards the windshield )?

Hope these questions make sense, but i don't want to start cutting before i know f i should

There are normally 2 parts making up the top cover.

Pim, Guy's the man for this topic. He explained it all to me perfectly. Either search or wait for the oracle :D

Hi Pim, photos make it a little clearer!
1. The first part to go in is the one with the air vents in. You need to trim back the return edge so the panel doesn't clip over the windscreen channel. Leave the curve at the outer edge, you'll end up with a razor sharp edge.
2. The next panel should be the one with the instruments in it, get that fitting neatly.
3. The half moon panel goes in next. Find the spot it sits tightest to the air vent panel with the edge parallel to the back of the instrument panel. Mark the position of the inner flange and trim away the excess fiberglass. Then bolt the two panels together.
4. The top panel then slots into the slot in the half moon panel and overhangs the instrument panel. Mine was a very very tight fit and I ended up breaking the mat slightly on the unseen side of the slot. The outer edges of the top panel will need notching at each side where it slips into the groove to allow the panel to fit all the way around.

Hope that makes sense!

Guy

Thanks Guy ,
It makes perfect sence, so i need to trim the top part were it slot in the slotted half moon part. Thanks again for youre help!
Tryphon, i've seen youre picture before, the Hawk Gr 4 dash also has the front top part, although the Hawk part looks more rounded to the original.
