Anybody recognise this car from the description? Somebody on here?

I'm not aware of any SEC members in Altringham.

how expensive can it be to replace a cracked windscreen? and does this suggest there may be some warping of the frame? (thoughts of mounting hidden expense intruding on my otherwise sunny thoughts of finally getting a stratos for myself!)

words from the wise (before I bid on this baby) are welcome!

cheers,

Bill

Haven't fitted a screen but I don't think its a problem for a competent screen fitting company. Not sure of price but think around GBP600.

Gerry charges about £600 for a new screen, maybe a little less if it's not an insurance claim? Plus there is the fitting of it. I've no idea why a screen should be fitted before the body is ready for paint. It doesn't sound as if the car has run on the road from the description but I'd guess that the screen was cracked by dropping something on it.

I'd recommend that you fire off a question to the seller and see if you can go visit the car at the weekend or one evening.

thanks, Guy and Peter;

I will enquire of the vendor on Ebay and if any gems of wisdom come my way I will share them on the forum.

Chris,

you would become one of the select band of Prescotti :D :D

re the screen, it's odds on its been stood on it's ears for years and just cracked, kept mine supported nicely so may be ok (apart from a kitemark or something?)

We have photos!

'Looks like a £10,000 kit to me?

On paper it should be worth more. I don't think the price of a new kit has quite the bearing on the price of a secondhand kit (with a lot more parts thrown in), in reality.

wow. £9000. I am still not sure that this is OK, because there is a further note on the auction suggesting he was pulling the car and planning to re-auction in a fortnight (possibly putting some other potential bidders off).

However, it went to the line and my (very cheeky) bid seems to have won!

Thanks to Struan at jadefarms for the quick email! Oboyoboy...just have to tell my wife now!

I need to find a way to get the car down here, and then the fun starts!

Bill

I hope you did win, £9000 seems like a fair price all round. My car was pre enjoyed but was not as far into build process and also came from Manchester some time ago.

Congrats Bill. Welcome to the select few

Bill,
as I understand ebay, he should have pulled it before the auction ended if he did not intend to let it go. Sellers are very quick to bad mouth people who do not pay up at auction end. Sellers should get the treatment from ebay if they let the auction end and then refuse to part with the goods just because they do not like the price they got.
Anyway, hope it's yours and well done!

Bill, I agree with John. The auction ended with the price above any reserve the seller may have set and it wasn't ended early for any reason so the car is yours provided you pay according to the terms agreed. Otherwise it's only the lawyers who get rich! Litigation ain't pretty but the two of you have a legally binding contract.
Let us know how it goes!

It is mine!

got a confirmatory email from the vendor; he has accepted the bid, and now I simply have to hand over the clams and find a way to trailer the car down from Manchester to Kent.

(still have to break the news to my wife....)

Looking at what John has already done with this kit, it must be an awful wrench for him to part with it.

Having NO mechanical skills to speak of, I am expecting a steep learning curve and much cursing to come: but the prospect of owning and driving one of these ravishing beauties is electrifying!

thanks to all on the forum for their advice and encouragement thus far; it is much appreciated!
