Hi,

For anyone who's fitted Alfa 164 front brake calipers..

Big trouble bleeding them.. thought the master cylinder was US... Changed and same problem.

Scratched my head and suddenly remembered that the 164 caliper is mounted at 12-00 position and on the Stratos it's at 9-00.
Should get all the air out if I unbolt the caliper and move to 12-00.

Pretty obvious in hindsight, but though I'd embarrass myself by sharing the moment.

 I never had any problem with my Alfa front's. Are you absolutely sure your master cylinder is OK.

Don't want to state the obvious but is the bleed nipple on the caliper at the top ?

Haven't had an issue either. When racing we used to leave something holding the brake pedal down to force air towards the bleed nipple over night (sometimes with the end of the car jacked up), seemed to do the job.

Hi,

The nipple is half way down the piston in the 9-00 position and is what made me suspicious.

Just unbolted and rotated to 12-00. Lots of air came out and all seems OK now.

There might be different calipers?

The bleed nipples on mine are at the top of the caliper. That is of course, unless you have the left hand caliper on the right wheel and the right hand caliper on the left wheel. In which case, the are at the bottom. ;)
