Would any kind Hawk owner/builder be so kind to post a picture of the rear bodywork hinge, the part that attaches to the body.
I am changing the one's on my Allora to make them quick release. would like to compare my ideas with what I know works.
Thanks in advance :)

It's upside down in the photo, of course.
If the spacing needed starts at about 10mm, you'd think that part with the holes could be thicker? Or the whole thing could be a bit heavier?
They do seem to crack or break over time though? You should see the ones on mine, they look like they've been to hell and back. They've been repaired and welded up, but it was a rally car after all?

Rally car is where its at :D :D I am sure mine will look similar before long :D
Actually the rear body section has been repaired that badly that it already looks like a rally car  Going to take a bit of work to fix the mess made of it by a so called professional, £400 down the drain :o

Hinge pictured above fits between jaws of chassis outrigger, and pin through as indicated. I plated the glassfibre above & below to spread the load of hard landings.

Thanks Chris,
I made those bits today, do wonder if they are wide enough at 40mm.
Plan to use a much larger plate than the first picture to spread the load
Cheers guys

Grumpy bates used to make some boot strengthening pieces from folded, punched and swaged sheet steel. Any body need a pic?

Pic attached. They fit inside the boot, bolt to the hinge point, at the front and the rear wher the ends sweep up.
Aaaw steve, what a nice thing to say. We all love you too!! ;) :D

I think Terry's car had these?, but then I couldn't remember just how the jacking points were made??
Anyhow, Peter will know.

Yes, mine has these.
Can't quite remember if I thought there was a small problem with alignment or some such - I'll have a look tomorrow to refresh my memory, take a good clear pic. inside the boot and see if I can work out what it was exactly that I didn't like.

John, thanks for that photo. I had some of those plates and never worked out what they were for. They were thrown to the back of the garage with all the headlight motor gubbings.

I think mine needed re-aligning. The bends had been folded too far but not by much. Best bet would be to fold a channel gradually till it sat nice and flush then CAREFULLY tack weld the joins. To get them really snug you could abrade the glass slightly underneath the plate, then stick a thin bed of p40 on.
As far as the hinges go i'm planning on making some new ones so i don't have a big ally block spacer.

John, like those ideas. My own thoughts were to have the rear section in place supported by jacks at the rear then offer up the complete hinge assembly tack welding it in place first, but then I have the advantage of not having the section that attaches to the chassis in place yet.
As an added benefit, as the whole assembly sits higher than before it allows me to get my silencer to fit better :)

Got some quick release pins to fit, Nice fit for the silencer, mine is a bit big but not get any spare cash to get a new one made so it will need to do.
