Just a note for anyone running the venerable twin cam. I have just fitted Yamaha R1 carbs to my twin cam using a bespoke inlet manifold made by Bogg Bros of West Lutton. Malton N Yorks.

I am delighted with the conversion the improvement in response and pick up is much improved over my twin DCNF Webers, the tick over has never been better rock steady at 700 rpm. Never did that with Webers!

Could you put up some pics of this and more details of the manifold please?

Hi David,
You can email them to me at home and I will stick them on the forum for you.
I take it you still have my email address?

Cheers

Thank you David and Stephen. I really like the look of this installation.

I'm not familiar with these carbs* or the bike - how much work did you have to do on the linkage?

The carbs are not horizontal - I'm assuming they aren't on the bike either.

*Suppose I should have realised they are throttle bodies so the angle doesn't matter! :o

Have I got it wrong again? Are they CV carbs with float chambers?

Peter, they are carbs. You're right, they are mostly fitted to bike engines on an angle, but I don't know any more than that. I did dig out an old choke cable for David to use on them.

As Chris described the carbs do have float chambers they were fitted to Yamaha R1's at the end of the 90's into early 2000. If you look on Ebay under motorcycles spares using R1 carbs as a search you should find some for sale. The carbs are 40mm, you can also use carbs of a Honda Blackbird which are 42mm.

In order to get the manifold made to accommodate the engine cant and distributor I left Bogg Bros a Guy Croft manifold for twin 40's. The end result is the manifold in the pictures. If you require further info send me a pm.

R1 throttle bodies are almost identical in size. 42mm i think? They also sit at least at 45 degrees from horizontal on the bike.

David, it was Peter that mentioned float chambers.

So yes Peter, they've got float chambers!
