View Full Version : Anyone up for a visit?

Guys,
Looks like I'll be in Wolfsburg, Germany on a regular basis over the next couple of months for buisiness. I may be able to fly over to the UK for a weekend while I'm there, if anyone's available for a visit.
Right now, it looks like I'd be free on the weekends of March 17, April 14, or May 12 for a side trip. If there's any St. Patricks Day event I can crash, let me know!

If you like good British beer, dont mind smokey clubs and 6 nations rugby on the TV then you are welcome to visit Chepstow via Bristol or Cardiff airports. Transport can be easily arranged.
PS my car needs a bit of work too !!
Regards, Alan.

Alan,
I'd really like to stop in - but after looking into airfares and flight times, it doesn't look like Cardiff or Bristol will work given my constraints. :( Too many transfers to get there, and not enough time. Costs are a bit high as well for a weekend trip - hard to justify four figures for an overnight stay. :o
My best bet looks like Hanover to Manchester - which is a long-ish ride from Chepstow! I'm probably going to try that for the weekend of April 14, to visit Guy near Liverpool. If that works out, perhaps I can try the drive down to your place in May?

Scott,
What about the cost to Nottingham-East Midlands or alternatively, Robin Hood-Doncaster.
I'm sure some of our Nottingham contingent would be happy to pick you up and show you some traditional hospitality. ;)
Depending on proposed dates, I would be happy to pick you up and try and arrange a get together with Sando, Strat6V & Bernard. Between us, we might even be able to arrange a bed for the night too. :)
Let us know.
Cheers,
Mick

Mick,
I appreciate the offer, but it looks like I'm limited to Manchester. I was looking at flying on one of those discount airlines (TUIfly, I think), and the only place I can get to from Hanover, Germany is Manchester.
I'm sort of limited to Hanover because of time constraints. I'll have to fly out Friday night or Saturday morning, and return Sunday evening. Doesn't leave much extra time for driving to a more distant airport or waiting for connecting flights.
Still, nothing's booked yet, so I'll look into those other aiports and see what the fares look like.
Cheers

Richard,
That is tempting! I can look into it. What carrier(s) should I look for from Manchester to Belfast?

Hi Scott, I'm trying to sort out work diaries as a matter of some urgency. Can you contact me soon so we can sort out the logistics of the visit on the weekend of 14/15 April please? It looks as if I will have to shoot up to Scotland on Saturday night, back 24 hours later although I may be able to work around it!
Assuming you are still coming across?
Cheers

Can't tempt you to the Knockhill test on Monday 16th while you're up Guy?

If I was coming up in the Stratos then wild horses wound't keep me away. unfortunately there is no secure car parking (and lots of inquisitive types) where I'll be. I wouldn't get anything done! And certain people wouldn't be happy!
Cheers

Guy,
I sent you an e-mail in case this post crashes my computer (again). Long story short - if you have a work conflict for that weekend, a postponement isn't a problem for me. I was having problems getting flights that fit into my schedule anyway, and would've had to spend a fortune to fly there and back in the time available on this trip.

OK Scott, emails received! If you want a passenger seat for Abingdon you are second refusal - Andrea may have it if she's here!

My visit with Guy is back on and confirmed - I'll be in the Liverpool area Saturday night with no other plans, since Guy has to make a business trip to Scotland that evening.
If anyone else is up for a visit, I can rent a car and meet you Saturday night into Sunday morning. I'll have to be back in Liverpool by 11:30 AM to check in for my flight, but that still gives me about a two hour radius around Liverpool that I can safely pay someone a visit. I think that puts me in striking distance of York and Nottingham in a pinch.
So, if anyone's not already booked - feel free to drop me a line.

Scott,
looks like you will just miss out on the sunday morning meet at John H's. Are you sure you can't get a later flight out of Liverpool?
If you can get a later flight then you could have a run over to John's with me on sunday morning and we can get you back to Liverpool for your flight.
Anyway, even if you cannot alter your flight then you are welcome to drop by here on saturday and we can go out for a pint or whatever. We even have a spare room now if you are stuck for a bed for the night.
I've sent you a PM with my home telephone number.

John,
I definitely can't catch a later flight - the one I have is getting me back to my hotel later than the boss would like as it is. And when I say the boss - I mean the guy who signs my paychecks!
Can you e-mail or PM me with your address? Mapquest can't seem to find Cheshire.

I'll need to get this heater and blower over to you in that area somehow?

I'm open to suggestions. Can it go in the post? John Hinchliffe sent the stub axles I bought from him in the mail, but I'm not sure if he's using Royal Mail or some other parcel company, or when he actually shipped them. They're supposed to be there by Friday, and the postage was GBP12.50.
If we can't arrange to get them to Guy's in time, I'll pay you for the heater parts, and perhaps collect them at a later date?

can you get them to my home address?

This has kind of crept up on me. All I can do is try and get it off tomorrow for a next day delivery?
It's a pity Scott couldn't stay another day?, but we can't help that?
John
April 12th, 2007, 02:38 PM
OK Chris, give it a try.

April 13th, 2007, 12:52 AM
Ok Scott
I'm posting them to John D., so fingers crossed.

Ok John, they're heading your way. Guaranteed delivery date 14.04.07
£21.45 but I don't expect Scott to pay all of that. It's my fault for not sorting this out sooner.
Thanks for your help.

you are welcome to visit Chepstow via Bristol or Cardiff airports. Transport can be easily arranged.
Alan,
Got any plans for the weekend of May 11-13? Now that I'm a little more familiar with some of the discount airlines, I find that Berlin to Bristol via EasyJet is actually doable for a weekend trip.
Had such a good time with Guy and John a couple weeks back, I'm ready to try another short trip - makes the weekend go so much faster than spending two days in the hotel in Wolfsburg! I'm just not flying through Cologne again. Nice airport, but too far out of my way for ease of travel.

Well, Alan's busy that weekend, but I might still fly into Bristol to visit Chris Savage. Anyone else in that corner of the country who might like to say hello while I'm there?

Looks like I will be in Wolfsburg, Germany again August 5-16. Anyone interested in a visit for the weekend of August 11-12? Any Stratos-related events that weekend I could look into attending?
It's not that I don't enjoy Germany, but the weekends go faster when I've got someone to visit than they do when I'm off sightseeing by myself.
I'm told this will be the last trip for me, but the boss said the same thing in May... and June... and July...
