There's some photos of a very nicely prepared bike inspired V8 (but not transverse) engined Hawk Stratos replica in Which Kit magazine this month.
It's this engine, if you don't know (2 bike cylinder heads and some internals no doubt):

I'd rather have a 328 on throttle bodies, but I suppose that would be boring in comparison. It is very interesting, I'll give it that.

302 hp on a 2L carbureted engine is impressive... wonder what it'd do with boost.

probably needs rebuilding every fifteen hours of use or something?

The big problem with these engines is no torque.
V8-302bhp with no torque - or V6-240bhp with loads of torque.
I know what i would choose.
Also the Cyclones are huge money. I reckon you could get a dino setup for the same money or less.

Tim, I doubt the person who had this built wanted the same type of car as we do. Not something for much road use? I reckon it's just a very expensive track day monster, nothing else?
Dino power would probably have been at the bottom of the list? The cyclone is north south too, so there was obviously no desire to replicate anything drive train wise?

Thanks for the link to the video.
It sounded neat to me - seemed to pull pretty well too.

There is a cyclone powered Hawk belonging to a current SEC member with a French address. Dont know if it is this car though.
The car in the vid has UK plates and is driven in UK, but is left hand drive.
BTW. found a link today to US tuning company Callaway who have use 2 V8 Cyclones to produce a V16 engine.
4 liter with 550bhp @ 10,000 rpm
The engine is tiny - 36 inches long by 21 inches wide by 19 inches high.
It weighs 152kg!!!
Here is a link (http://www.callawaycars.com/v16/)

Callaway is right down the road (well 30 miles down the road) from me. They are a well known tuner for Corvettes over here in the US (a premium tuner for those with lots of money). I wonder what their plans for such an engine would be (certainly not for a Corvette). That would be a great engine for a Caterham.

21 inch wide block is very slim but i think 8 tubular headers each side would add a lot to the installation width.Think of the sound though.
Anybody heard those 4 rotor mazda wankels?

I heard a twin turbo 4-rotor in Mazda's GTP racer at Watkins Glen back in the early 90's - to be honest, I thought it sounded awful. Like marbles in a blender. It had nothing on the V-12 Jaguar!
I bet that Callaway V-16 would fit beautifully under the hood of my father's '72 Chevy Monte Carlo. I wonder if it has the torque to motivate a 2200 kg car...
