I’ve got a set of Coffin spoke replica wheels on my strat, four stud fixing. The markings on the back read GUY IND LTD. Does anyone know the history of these wheels.

Also I need to know the thread size/type/pitch for the bolts that hold the engine steady bar mount to the head on a 2000 beta lump. The two bolts are different sizes approx M10 and M12. Can anyone help.

These wheels were made by transformer back in 1990. A friend of mine called Howie Guywas having Halibrand style split rims made for Cobra replicas. At the time he worked for Jaguar as a designer and one of the pattern makers there made the pattern for him and he arranged for Image Wheels to make the centres from his pattern and to supply the rims. He made the suggestion that Transformer might like to sell replica Campag wheels as he could get them made. So I drew up the design and he had the pattern made and Image produced the wheel. The first few wheels were defective due to a combination of problems with the pattern and manufacturing inconsistencies so a second, improved, pattern was made and some changes to the machining procedure. Unfortunately we never achieved a level of consistent quality and of the sets that were made too many were returned to Image as defective. The second pattern was returned to me but the first was apparently lost by Image.
I had some four sets of wheels made myself from the later pattern of which I kept two sets. I gave this pattern to Gerry Hawkridge as I no longer had any use for it.
Obviously the design is best suited to a 5 bolt pattern but it can still be drilled for four bolts, it just doesnt look as good. The pattern was made so that the front centres differed from the rears in a similar way to the original wheels; the spoke edges overlap the outer ring of the casting on the front but not the back.

Thanks Colin, your description of the hub arrangement front and rear is spot on.
It was mentioned that Image may have produced them, and the kit was purchased around 1990. (not by me) I’ve only had it for the last 9 months out of its’ 13 year gestation.

The only down side with this set is that the rear wheel width has been change to accommodate a narrower tier. (The inside rim has been cut and re:welded !!!!)

Anyway thank for clearing up this small mystery with my car.
