Hi everyone,
does anybody have a good source for the metall-rings holding the lenses of Veglia-instruments? I am doing currently some restoration on a Dino-Speedo and an Ammeter from Veglia and it would be best to replace the rings. Many of you must have the same problem, does anybody have a solution?
Many thanks,
Andreas
PS: I intend the black ones, not chromed.

Andreas,
If the gauges are the same size, I suppose you could scavenge a set of retaining rings off of a Fiat 124 or 850. Guy would probably know for sure.
I see Fiat instruments on E-bay pretty regularly. If you're not picky about the instument face markings, you can sometimes find them very cheaply.

Hi,
yes I have seen the offers on ebay, and thatīs what I used to do so far. But I intend NEW retaining rings. On some oldtimer fairs I have seen brand new reproductions, but unfortunately only in chromed version for Alfa Romeo use. Does anybody know a source for NEW black retaining rings?
Many regards from Germany

Hi Andreas, as everyone is telling you the instrument rings are the same across the Fiat range from 124, 850 and Dino. I don't know of anyone who supplies only the rings but you could try Spiderpoint. Their catalogue for the Fiat Spider lists the instruments as well as the chrome rings. Prices for the large rings are DM17.25 each and DM14.95 each for the smaller ones. Plus tax and shipping of course, although that should be cheap for you! After that I'd suggest painting them or some sort of plating/powder coating. I have always dealt with Ralf there, phone number is 0782261704 or 0782276583, fax 0782261851. They can also supply you with front hub bearing kits and the ball joints fot the front stub axle. Email address is SpiderPoint@t-online.de
Good Luck

Many thanks, Guy, I will try this.
The problem with the chromed rings is that if you try to get off the chrome (by sandblasting, otherwise it does not gow away) in order to ensure that your paint sticks properly the rings will deform considderably. Thatīs at least what I experienced. I assume taking away the chrome sets free inner tensions. Anyhow it worked somehow to bend it back, I just thought that we had a source for rings already in the right color.
Many thanks again,
Regards Andreas

I decided to revive this thread after two years to share the results of a test I did.
I took a set of the aftermarket chrome rings down to my local chroming shop. I had them dip them in the removal tank. Because they are so thin I wasn't sure if they would just disintigrate.
But I was pleasantly suprised to see perfect condition brass rings left.
Paint will stick nicely, and they won't corrode later.
Hope this helps others.

Hi
I see that there are also some rings in the latest europea catalogue sold as options to their own self select guages. Available in black and a range of profiles. I cant tell whether they would suit the Veglia guages as mine are boxed up and inaccessable at present. Has anyone looked into this?

Speedmadeīs hint I find very useful, since normally the rings are offered in the chromed version only. I think I will try this, thanks.
Regards, Andreas
PS: Apart from the two temp-instruments in the meantime I changed all to Dino-version. Took some time to find....
