Can anyone shed any light on what I might have done.

In preparing for replacing the cambelt tensioner on Alfa 12v V6, I removed the inner mudguards and timing belt cover, and now the car wont start at all, previously started every time - first time, even when left for long periods.

I've spent ages checking for disturbed electrical connections but can't see anything amiss.

I've now replaced the cover, but it's no different.
Any ideas gratefully recieved.

Just go through a check list

Does it turn over and at a good rate? (low battery dodgy earth etc etc)
Does it produce a spark?
Is there fuel? (fuel filter blocked bent a fuel line etc etc)
Is the air filter blocked or the feed in crimped?
Fuses?

Sorry if these all sound basic but you never know, and it's always easier checking the basic stuff first.

Try the crank trigger and coolant sensor, both in the vicinty.

Try the crank trigger

My thoughts too John. Crank trigger sensor is very prone in that area.

Crankshaft timing sensor is most likely, the 90 degree bend (despite being moulded) is prone to cracking and then she's a dead duck as its not immediately obvious.

Check both ends to as my original CTS had a tendency to detach at times because the plastic connectors were so worn. I replaced it with a new one and all was well again.

I have a spare one if you want to try it out before shelling out for a new one, its old but I know it was working before the car was stripped. Plus I have used one off a Fiat Brava (with a few washers as spacers) for testing purposes - that worked too. Shout soon though as I'm packing up at the moment and moving house in two weeks time!
