take one Hawk silencer and n angle grinder. Mix in an irreversible manner. See result below. The wall is a double skin of stainless. One half of mine was completely empty, the other had a few residual brillo pads at the bottom. That explains the 109dB!
Two tips I've had for passing noise tests. 1) Make sure the engine is hot, they're noisier cold. 2) On two stroke motocross bikes, they immerse the silencer in water prior to the test to reduce the noise level The water evaporates out with the heat later once well away from the meter.

What are you going to do to shut it up Chris? New Hawk item or do you have a cunning plan to stuff more stuffing in and have it welded up? Or what?

Bet the neigbours love that 109 db :D

As an after thought If I remember correctly.... which is entirely possible I don't, I wouldn't recommend welding stainless steel. It gives off some really nasty/toxic gases. I stand ready to be corrected by people that know.

I won't claim to be one of those in the know... but surely, what's a little hexavalent chromium between freinds? ;)

I suppose it beats polonium 210 and is obviously more readily available :(

not in some well-known hotels and other select places it would appear!

The idea behind the double skinning was that the outer skin was fitted with a few tack welds, so when repacking was needed the outer skin could be removed without damage and the silencer cut open and repacked and then the outer skin refitted. I don't suppose you really wanted to know that now.

BOLLOX!

Got it in one! :) After wrapping pipe in stainless steel wool and then packing the rest with stone wool stuff. The stainless steel reduces the rate of loss of the wool apparently.
