Tracked it down to the oil pressure warning switch. Hasn't stopped with tightening and inserting a copper washer. Seems to be leaking from the switch itself - is this possible?

More than likely! I've had more than one switch failure on various cars - usualy starts with a slight oil leak before it bursts open and dumps the sumpful on the motorway! (Both switches and pressure sensors.)

800 miles and it's bust already!

That doesn't sound very good Chris. Mine always died after a significant mileage. Did it get a knock while fitting the engine or get overtightened perhaps? What switch are you using anyway? I thought most AR V6s only fitted that notoriously unreliable pressure sensor on the front cylinder head.

I put an aftermarket one from Demon Thieves in an unused tapping in the oil foilter housing.

That's probably the same tapping I used for my oil temperature sensor. I think it's some strange tapered thread as I ended up using some sealing compound to get it oil-tight.
