Hi

just returned from Gaydon - had a super day, great to chat to Guy (again we chatted in Turin a couple of weeks ago), Peter (Mudhut) and Tim

Thanks guys for allowing me to "poke around" your fabulous cars

As I said , I have just aquired an OLD "as in .... 8 years in a garden OLD" Allora replica - it looks a bit sorry for itself at the mo, but we shall make her beautiful again !!

So you should be prepared for forthcomming barrage of (from the sublime to the utterly stupid) questions

Question 1 - does anyone have an Allora build manual - I mainly need to know what donor parts are used ?? i.e. steering, brakes etc

regards

Congratulations Johnny,
I too own an Allora and there are at least 5 more Allora owners on the forum.
Some cars have been modified by there owners so no longer use the parts specified when they were built.
At present mine has a chevette steering rack, I think lada top whishbones with Fiat Dino steering arms, dont know yet what track rod ends are used.
There is a significant amount of bump steer in the Allora front suspension and that needs sorting on most cars, means moving the rack around and making new mounts for it.
The rear suspension can differ on some cars with early cars using the beta front hub arrangement with a track control arm mounted to the rear chassis upright. Later cars used a full lower wishbone arrangement.

Hope this is of help

cheers

Hi Johnny, Pleased to see that you found the forum at last.
The Allora in Portsmouth that i was telling you about today has just had a lot of work done on the font suspension and steering.

I will give you his contact details once you join the club.

Pleased that you enjoyed yourself today.

I will ask around for an Allora build manual. I am sure someone will have one ?

Hope to see you again soon.

Hi Guys,
Well after the cloudburst on the way down, it really did turn out to be a great day. Nice to meet everyone including some new faces (for me anyway) and have a really good get together for the end of the season.
Great turn out of Strats too and well done to everyone who made it.
Short video of the parade ring is here. :)

At least if I've done it right, it is.

Strange but I've just had an email offering an Allora build manual! If you drop me a PM with your email address I'll get the two of you together!

Cheers

Guy,
Any chance of a look at that before it goes? Would love to see that for archive purposes? A photocopy perhaps?

I'm sure that once Johnny has his hands on it he'll happily run you off a copy (or send you the original for the Club's Archives - subtle hint!) but it isn't going to pass through my hands on the way from Anonymous to Johnny!

Cheers

Rather than photocopy, a scan to a pdf file would be better. Easier to disseminate.

Hi Chris/John

No Problem - I will send you a high quality photocopy or a scanned version when I recieve it - I have offered the asking price, but I am waiting for a price on some other parts that are available from the same source.

I will let you know as soon as I have the manual

What parts do you need?

Hi Stephen

to answer your question : as the car has been in a garden for 8 years - so .. most of them !!

No, I will be taking it apart over the winter and I will hopefully establish what I need and what suspension/steering modifications I can make.

I am just trying to establish what "was" the "base" for the moment

best regards
