View Full Version : Fitting roof scoop

I've had the roof scoop for years now, but haven't been able to bring myself to drill through the roof to fit it!

However after such a hot summer I have decided this is now a must.

Anyone got any good advice/tips about fitting this, and what vents to use on the roof of the cockpit?

Thanks

Dave

Fitting is straightforward. Trial fit it to check gaps around the base and if they need fixing wash the roof with soapy water and then put parcel tape over the damp surface so it won't stick permanently! Then place the scoop centrally, use masking tape as a guide to reposition it and put a bead of filler on the flange before pressing it into position. Once cured it can be lifted off and any imperfections filled before painting. Use some expanded ally sheet for a grill and then paint the scoop.
You have to decide if you want one or two vents. Originals had one vent matching the dash vents but two is less selfish if there is room to fit them. The base of the vent should protrude above the roofline to stop water seeping in but, if the vents can be shut, you won't get water coming in as air pressure seems to build up preventing any getting into the scoop.
They should be fitted as far back in the scoop as possible and properly sealed in. Once you're happy with them the scoop can be fixed in place with sikeflex. Mine came off easily enough last year for painting with a steel filler spreader sharpened up to a razors edge! Hardly damaged the paint on the roof or the scoop.
Hope that helps Dave!

Thanks Guy,

I appreciate the advice, I'll get my vents, first then I'll give it a go!
