Hi,

Cn anyone give me some background to the Spyder chassis? Was it Spyder that made them for Gerry or is it a different kit? Also, can the kit from Gerry be used to swap it from a Beta engine to a V6? Is it a good chassis, or are there better ones to look out for?

Many Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark, Spyder made the early chassis for Transformer and you can decipher the number. Mine is 8805048. That's the 48th chassis made, produced in May 1988. As I have upgraded from 2.0 VX to 3.0 Alfa I can assure you it can be done! The work involved includes the welding in of three new mounts and the repositioning of the gear change upper mount and engine steady bar. The right side diagonal bar has to be moved outboard and the fuel tank cut down to suit. Sounds harder to do than it is. Buy the conversion kit from Gerry, it includes all the parts including the CV joint spacers needed to mate the different PCDs on the Alfa flanges to the Beta driveshafts.
Go for it. It's the best mod you can do but don't forget to upgrade the brakes and change the wishbones for nylaton bushed ones!
I think it's a great chassis!

My Alitalia livery kit is chassis no SP 006 RH 87. How do you decipher that?
I assume made in 1987 by Spyder no 6 chassis? Hopefully running this year after 20 years building.....

Sounds about right to me! Must be the earliest chassis yet to hit the road? Unless someone out there knows better!

Hi - I'm not sure but it must have been 1986 - the first chassis were made by Midas and used the original beta subframe - only a few of these were made and subsequently Spyder took over chassis production. Mine is a 1987 chassis and still going strong....
