All,
Have read a number of threads regarding gear linkage, but can't find the detail I need and hope someone can clarify what exactly I need to get my hands on for this part of the build.
I am using an Alfa 164 12v engine, have retained what I think are the necessary bits from the donor. Do I simply need to buy gear linkage bits from Gerry and that's it, or do I need to acquire anything else.
Would appreciate your knowledge on the matter.
Thanks
Iain

Iain,
I can't remember if you're building a new kit or refurbishing an HF2000... but I think the only part *not* included in Gerry's gear linkage is the shift lever. You'll still need a complete Lancia Beta gear lever, and the first link attached to the bottom of the gearshift.
The first link gets scrapped except for the clevis at the end attached to the shifter - this gets welded to the end of Gerry's linkage. Usually, you send Gerry the shift lever when you order a kit, and it comes back attached to a new linkage.

I also used the Beta gear lever but welded the connection link higher up the gear lever, above the joint ( see attached picture ).
I beleive you can also use the Alfa gear lever, Gerry supplied the kit ( HF3000 ) with an aluminium spacer to suit it ( left on the second foto ).

Iain,
I dropped my 164 linkages as per the build info into Gerry for mod'g. At least I know it'll be done right.

In addition to the gearbox, you will need the small rod that is mounted in the top of the gearbox casing (operates in a 'to and fro' motion). Should come with the box; gets connected to the main linkage).
Hawk kit can now use Alfa 164 lever instead of Lancia Beta.
If maing your own linkage, ensure pivot/lever arrangement is correct to keep lever gearshift pattern as original design (i.e. do not swap/invert H-position gear lever layout, as per Deon kits'')

Sorry still confused, but only slightly.....
My HF3000 will be able to use the 164 gear lever.
The control arm (that is attached to lever and gear box in the original car) goes to Gerry for modification.
I then need to buy Gerry's gear linkage kit to complete the job?? Or is this where I need to get hold of Beta gear linkage bits also. Is this a both are required or and either or situation

I don't know what you mean by clevis, but i got my linkage kit with the fork ( is this the clevis ???) already attached to Hawks link rod ( see first pic ). The only thing i had to do was welding ( Hard soldering ) the squire block ( clevis??, normaly attached to the underside of the Beta shifter handle ) above the shifters joint/bearing.
I believe You can do the same with a Alfa shifter handle.
Hope this doesn't confuse u more :o

The part I called a clevis is circled in red
Iain - You'd need either the bits from the Beta shown in this picture (lever, shift knob, and piece of the first linkage rod circled) -OR- the shift lever from the 164 to send to Hawk for modification. Hawk's gear linkage kit should come back to you complete and ready to install whichever option you choose.
Sorry I can't be more specific about the 164 option - that wasn't available when I bought my kit, so I still have a Beta shifter.

Scott,
Thanks for your input as ever. Lever will go in the post to Gerry over the next few days.
