I'm still researching this, and I've been in contact with BTR preparations, who are building an original for rallying. I think they're the people who prepare Steve Perez's cars. They've also got a Stradale as well as the Group 4.

Anyway here's what they said.

To my knowledge, works cars only used steel original tanks, certainly the ex works car that David Sutton has is that specification, as are all other cars I have seen photographs of to date. I have tanks made to my cell patterns and container design with integral side impact protection. Our car is being used purely for Motorsport purposes, rallying specifically and my customer was not impressed with the vulnerable positioning of the fuel tanks. The ATL tanks are designed to fit into the same space as the original tanks as using space under the front was not an option to us as we had to have room for a spare wheel and other items.

ATL made the cells for me and I have had “thickwall” Kevlar 2 piece containers to mount them made by our plastics man. These are due for delivery next week. Due to the considerable investment in pattern costs we have made and our long term relationship with ATL, I would expect Kevin to point you at us should you wish to order replicas of our tanks. To date costs have been

Physical pattern costs, BTR to make dummy fuel cells £500.00 + vat

ATL drawing costs to fuel cells + supply card replicas for test fitting purposes £732.50 + vat

Fuel cell, left hand £1018.84 + vat

Fuel cell, right hand £1018.84 + vat

Kevlar cell container left hand mould pattern costs, left hand £ produced, not charged yet

Kevlar cell container left hand mould pattern costs, right hand £ produced, not charged yet

Kevlar cell container left hand production costs, left hand £ in production now del due 7 days

Kevlar cell container left hand production costs, right hand £ in production now del due 7 days

As you can see from the above, not cheap to produce. Should you wish to order a tank set, we would have to come to an agreement with you whereby you agreed to accept a portion of the development costs.

Anybody interested?
Just as well this is typing, after reading the costs, my hands are still shaking too much to write!

Has anybody any comments on using original lancia tanks in a Hawk? Gerry says they should fit. I'm keen to know if the do fit!

Rich man like you shouldn't be worried by a few more grand :p

Would pay for a nice 2.5 24 valve or 3 litre 12 valve!!!

Makes my new tank look like a give away :) In the process of being made by a company in mid Wales had to buy the foam from Demon thieves but fits inside the chassis in front of the gearbox and holds just over 11 gallons, Weird shape, glad its not me having to build it :D

Hi Guys
I think it's XS Racing (http://www.xsracing.net/) that look after Steve Perez's cars. With this being Chesterfield as well though, sounds like they may be all doing work for the same customer?

Reason I said that was that they sent me these pictures of cars they've worked on.

Interesting to see the VK car sporting a full size legal front number plate in the picture, wonder if he's been dug up about it by the scruitineers.

The DVLA website no longer mentions the loophole to use smaller plates on non-UK cars with no dedicated number plate space. I'm sticking with my diddy ones. I'm afraid I get hot under the collar at the sight of a nice kitcar with a big numberplate stapled on in an unnatural place. :(

Scrutineers at Barkston sprint the other week asked me about mine and if I'd had any trouble with other scrutes, but he was specifically talking about UK Rally log books. I explained mine's not log booked or used for rallying and he was ok about it. It didn't seem to matter for the sprint.

You may need big standard (vertical) plates on the photo to get your log book Chris...and probably on events now too.........I'm sure that it will affect quite a few people!

I wonder is real Stratos would get away with a stick on as thats what was supplied as new?
Similar I suppose too using old style black plates?

All originals raced on FIA backed events use the original tanks. They're part of the FIA homologation sheet.

Technical Commisioner has confirmed that foam filling my hawk tanks and sheathing in Kevlar as in the VK Stratos ( see Vk thread) is fine.
BUT the MSA is reconsidering the roll cage. Bollox!

Did they say in what way Chris? :(

After talking to MSA they were looking into original Saftey cage certificate and as to this date no answer has been obtained. As J Symes is overseas at present no answer will be received before the end of the month.

This is what the man said. News to me - he'd told me it was OK with the certificate.
