Road-legal track tyres. Work exceptionally well on dry tarmac, better still when some heat into them. Remain usable on wet circuits. Hate standing water. Tramline noticeably on wet grooved public roads, especially concrete motorways.

But I think they are great!

Descriptions of the sizes available at
http://www.toyo.co.uk/page.php?identity=r888

Can be ordered on the web for fitting at your local tyre dealers, or mail order to get them fitted yourself, from www.blackcircles.com

Other tyres are also available...

What size do you use on the back John?

Well, when I bought the Toyo's the other year, they only had 205/50x15 for me, so I have a set of four of those. They now do 225/50, which I would prefer - especially at the rear.

The tyres have so far done a reasonable number of laps at Zolder (when 12v engine died), the thrashing around unsealed/concrete roads at Spa, a wet race practice at Donington, four dry laps at Donington, drive to and from Abingdon (and the sprint), two dry race practice sessions as Brands, a dry practice session and 15-lap race at Castle Combe, plus a bit more road use. And they still look healthy.

Note that these are on MSA Approved Tyre List 1B, if that matters at all.

No worries with them at MOT time either.

Just awful on wet, grooved tarmac/concrete road surfaces.

So a set of proxes T1-R for the wet and R888 for the rest of the time?

For road use, I think that would be a good choice - if not going the Pirelli or Yoko route. I actually still have a tired set of T1-S tyres for general road use, if I ever go to the trouble of changing the wheels. Take them along as a wet option too. The later T1-R tyres should be better still.

For circuit use, the R888 were still fine in the wet (greasy Donington circuit).
Wouldn't like to use them on a circuit with standing water though (think Combe in a downpour).

Maybe I should look for Toyo sponsorship ;)

(having said that, the old T1's were provided foc through Kit Car magazine, when they ran adverts for Toyo)
