View Full Version : Wanted: Alfa 24v Air Flow Meter

It seems that the AFM on my 24v Alfa engine is misbehaving.

Does anyone have one available?

(the 24v unit is bigger than the 12v unit, so that won't do)

Regards,

I have one John - bought it as a used part from Southarn Alfa about 2 months ago when I thought mine was playing up (don't think it was as it happens).

Paid £50 - your option to purchase from me or try a "swap out" as I believe they call it over the pond.

Might even bring it up as I've bought a new car plaything and can't keep out of it (and its quicker than the Stratos)

Thanks for the offer Peter; I'll take you up on that if possible.

Wondering what your new toy is - either a German car, or maybe a bike?

If you want a run up to Tongham, when would you want to do that? Call me (on 07818 033 232) to try and arrange something, as I am not around for the whole weekend, nor the first part of next week.

But if I can get it somehow for/before next weekend that means I may improve the running of my car before the Bank Hol race at Combe. Will pay what it cost you, plus petrol (I think) or postage costs if that suits you.

Cheers,
John

Nothing German! I looked at the BMW 330 Ci but it was a genuinely rubbish drive and not awfully quick either.

It's a Nissan 350Z. Might not be faster than some of the Stratos here but its miles faster than mine!

I'll call you.

Thanks for the visit Peter, and the try-out of the airflow meter.

Having suspected the afm wiring connector, I dismantled it (well, part of it) and found that the female pin is in two parts, which did not appear to be mounted correctly within the holder. Got the small part out, refitted the pieces together and reassembled it. All four pin connectors now look the same when viewing them end-on.

Put that back onto the AFM and started the car - flat spot now seems cured!
:)

Doh. Wish I had realised that was the cause of the problem before.

Maybe see you next Monday.

Thanks again,
John

Sounds like a similar problem that Guy had with his crank trigger a while back.

John.

Good job John, glad you have it fixed.

The broken connector was pin 4 I think, on the green wire. If so, this wire is common to both the air temp sensor and also the air flow meter circuits. Your ecu must have been in limp home mode so you should notice the difference. If you haven't already, I'd reset it (can't remember how offhand - maybe just disconnectr from battery for a few minutes).

Good luck monday week, probably see you there.

Well, as I use the battery master switch all the time on my car, then it will get a reset every time :)
