How do people mount their handheld extinguisher? Mine came with the usual sort of wire wall mounting thing, which I doubt would retain its contents any more than I would in an accident.
Using a hose clamp would hold it securely, but not much good for rapid access! Any suggestions?

I put the handheld one on the floor of the car infront of the passenger seat. Easily reached and in the unlikely event that it should come loose it would go under the legs of any passenger.
I also have a plumbed in one that resides under the nose panel of the car.

that's where mine's going, I was just a bit sceptical about the strength of the mount in a multi-G barrel roll. Not that I'm planning one!

Does your mounting bracket just have a single U-shaped clip at the top, plus loop at the base, or does it include a steel band and over-centre clip?

Older mounts only had the easily removed style, I think, whereas newer mounts are more secure. FIA have specified additional mounts, methinks, but in all cases it needs to be quick release to be of any use at all.

FWIW, the over-centre catch on my hand-held bracket seems far too easy to undo, as it can get caught on passengers clothing/footwear. But I think it would work fine for holding the bottle in any impact, if still done up!

The extinguisher came as you describe - no over centre clamp. But now you mention it, I have an old toxic BCF or whatever one out of a previous car, and I'm sure it has a clamp. Garage rummagings tomorrow I think.

Beginning to wonder if it won't be easier to swap to a 2.5L engine than pay thousands to logbook the current engine. An engine swap only takes a couple of days.....

It's not the extinguisher I have got, but the same bracket shown here - if you can see the thin band around the bottle.
