Can someone please post a picture of the position of the door lock reciever before I drill any holes. I`m happy with the latch position on the door but the way i`ve set up the reciever it seems to be at rather a steep angle. Should it be straight [in relation to the pillar]or slightly askew.

Dave,

while you have the latch in the door, measure where the centre of the claw shaped bit that protrudes through the door is in relation to the hole centre. Kinda 20 mm down and 6 across or something like that anyway! Now remove the latch asembly from the door. Move the door into its closed resting place. Being a bit rough i rivetted on a bit of ally sheet to the tub and door to hold eveything exactly in place.
Climb through the other side of the car with your latch plate and pencil with you( forgot mine and had to climb out again  ) you now need to get the latch plate onto the door jamb somehow and located in the right place. Thats right, you need the measurements that you wrote on that bit of paper which is on the bench  Eye through the latch hole and set the plate with the measurements you have. Try and draw round it. Now hop out, undo the door, hold the latch plate in place, rotate it round the bottom bolt hole to line things up and drill the holes. You can enlarge the holes a tad for final adjustments. Hope this helps.

John.

Another method I used was from an article Chris Jarvis sent me ( description by Gerry Hawkwridge in kitcar magazine i think'.
I put the door catch or striker plate on the door locking mechanism, in the locked position. Then i put some kind of `clay`( we use it to fix windows in their frame) on the approxomate position of the striker plate. Then close the door as far as you need it to be, with the striker plate fixed ti the locking mechanism. When you open the door again you will have a clear print in the clay from which you can mark the hles to drill.
Worked fine on my doors, no need to adjust at all. See attached immages.
Hope it helps

Dave, i forgot to mention i also put some very thin kitchen folio ( plastic ) around the striker plate so it wouldn't stick to the clay!

Good luck!
