Hi,

Final connections happening now and I've a few bits and pieces that are unclear:-

(Alfa V6 12V)

I have an oil temp guage, but no sender... where have people put the sender?

The water temp sender has two connections, but the loom has one wire. What's the other connections for??

I have a set of old Veglia Borletti instruments (Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Water temp, and fuel) plus a made up, look-alike volt meter.

The gauges have white / black as earth and white for lights.
The oil pressure / fuel gauge are different in that they have an additional warning light for low pressure / fuel

They all have yellow and black (marked as GN)
The fuel and oil pressure have this wire split to also supply the warning light housing.
the remaining wires are:-
Water Green (marked 12v)
Oil temp Blue / Black ( marked 12v)
Oil pressure slate black (marked 12v) and slate to warning light)
Fuel Pink (marked 12V) and red to warning light.

My question is what do these wires do?

Do I really supply the +12V to the different coloured wires above marked 12v? I half expected the +12V to be a common wire colour ( thus the yellow / black.)

The HAWK manual suggests 12v to those marked 12v, but not totally consistent and the yellow / black going to the sender on the engine.

Can anyone put me out of my misery??

Can anyone understand what's above?

regards

Can't offer much help, not quite at that point myself.

Hi Andy, try to answer some of the points[

Usually in the bin with the rest of the Beta engine.... If you want the gauge to work you'll have to drill the sump pan, weld a threaded boss to the sump and fit the Beta sender

Probably the overheating warning light.

From rewiring my car a couple of years ago I recall that you need a power supply to the instrument with the ground at the sensor (oil pressure/water temp/oil press) but that I made a separate power supply for the lighting circuits, controlled through the rheostat.
Hope that helps some.

A couple of points.

To fit an oil temp sensor I had a sump plug drilled and tapped to take the Beta sender unit.

The second terminal on the water temp sender is an earth on mine.

Many AR water sensors are twin - one for the engine ECU and one for the dashboard, both returned to earth through the body. Don't use any silicone sealants or you may not get an earth return!
