I have an offer of a 164 V6 24V Lusso but the clutch has "packed up". The slave cylinder operates but the clutch does not. The car's around the 70K mark without a clutch replacement so it's not surprising.
It's a job I would have done before the transplant anyway but I'd like to run it prior to breaking.
Does anyone have any experience / tips of replacing the complete clutch assembly whilst still in the 164? Any suppliers or fitting services?
I've had 1 quote locally at £600, I didn't ask if it included VAT
I do believe it's simple when it's out!!!

It is easy when the engine is out! That doesn't help you now though.

I think it's a bit of a bugger with the engine in, hence the high garage quote.

There is generally a lot of work involved getting access to the clutch in the 164.

I have a feeling that Alfa describe it as an 'engine out' job. Other garages, Alfa specialists, have generally found alternative ways of working - such as removing the suspension on that side of the car.

So, not easy and not quoted as a cheap garage job.

You may want to ask one or two Alfa specialists for a quote in comparison (for instance, who worked on Dave Watson's car last year - I always forget his name?)
