Not my favourite supplier - ended up with a nearly-complete car and had to remove the engine myself, higher mileage than originally agreed, missing intake pipe took weeks to be sent on, car had been standing for a LONG time, not cloverleaf spec as originally agreed, gearbox was holed and unusable, left me feeling somewhat stitched-up and ripped-off.
But if you aren't in a rush and can walk away if not happy, he is a usable source for breaking Alfas (gtvince.com). Just don't depend on him to keep to any sort of plan...

I believe a reasonably offer is around £1500 for the basic engine, all anc. including a box are extra....

If this is a factory engine, I take it that means no electrics, no ancillaries, water pump, engine mounts, possibly no injectors or air-flow meter, etc?
The guarantee will also be worthless if not being purchased direct from Alfa.
Not that this means there are likely to be any problems with it, but it would only seem useful as a replacement for a tired 24v engine as an alternative to paying for a rebuild.
The costs of all the extra parts needed otherwise would be pretty high.

John,
It has been offered on the Alfa forums and else where for AGES. It was offered to me but having read your comments I was a liitle put off. The story was, it was purchased from Italy for a project car which was cancelled some years ago!! AND it's still hanging around

the engine comes complete with all ancilleries, excluding flywheel and startermotor, but eveything is still there. deven has geniune cloverleaf runners, Guranteed given.
John Rutter-you could have walked away from the car when you arrived, I have a witness at WAD (alfa dealer) who can confirm the deal. You knew the mileage and also knew the gearbox was broken....sold as seen.

But you didn't explain that the car had been standing for a very long time, leading to perished connectors, etc. And the missing but essential intake hose that you didn't send for weeks (or was it months) afterwards. As for the gearbox, you told me - and I have a witness too, don't forget - that it had been driving fine and you thought it was a diff problem, not a totally knackered gearbox.
As for walking away, you had dicked me around so much I should have kicked you in the nuts and done just that! But we made a deal and the engine is miraculously still working.
Hence my comments that you are a supplier of many Alfa bits, but not someone I would recommend 100 percent.
Having said that, you may now have a potential buyer for this engine, from a blow-up yesterday. If you can suggest an asking price he may come back to you.

This engine has now been sold ''for a very reasonable sum''. I have to say that the engine is just as Vince said it would be, and he was very helpful in arranging collection of it. It will be installed in the car next weekend but I have no doubt that it will fire straight up.
Thanks to Rut The Nav. for putting me onto it.

Can anyone please confirm the differences between the V6 24V Cloverleaf and Lusso engines? I believe the additional 20 HP is produced by the Cloverleaf's greater-diameter inlet tracts and reshaped exhaust system to improve gas flow. If so, I can continue my search for a Lusso, with Cloverleaf tracts added later with Gerry's GP4 system.
Also, has anyone ever played with alternative cams? Lastly, When viewing examples, what am I looking out for to avoid?

Allen

MMMMmm, this maybe true BUT I want to optimise what I've got ;) that includes suspension, brakes and engine. So I am correct in my understanding?
I believe EVERYONE would like more horse power....................to a limit!!

Apparently it is just down to the larger intake runners - information at the Squadra Tuning web site to show comparative figures, as well as gains to be had from the replacement ECU chip.
This has been discussed elsewhere in the forum, so a quick search of Squadra should find what you want.

Thanks for that John. I would imagine replacing the inlet runners and a rechip mapped to the gp4 exhaust would be a straight forward tune with decent results.
Has anyone had any experience with replacement camshafts? Any dealings with ebspares.co.uk (http://www.ebspares.co.uk/news1.htm) ???

Hi there i have ordered quite a fewparts and gaskets from them on the last 6 months.
They were very helpful and the parts arrived within 2-3 days.
I have also had dealings with Jamie Porter from Royston who did the dyno (and i suspect fitting) for the Cams article.
I would use both again.
Cheers

Thanks Tim,
I've sent them an email enquiring re the cams and setup for the 24V. It comes down to cost over increase in tractable HP for me so fingers crossed...

ebspares.co.uk confirmed the spec differences are correct. They also quoted £1200 for the cam set  I'll the sticking to the std setup!!

I have/had 12v 'fast road' camshaft and ecu chip (with increased rev limit).
That worked nicely on my old engine. EB Spares are recommended.
Of course, the 24v engine has more metalwork, hence the higher price.
AHMotorsport can do custom camshafts, valves and followers for 24v engines, but also at a price.
How fast do you want to go?
How much do you want to spend?

AND, some of us have enough difficultly coping without worrying about taming 24v super-power motors ...... I think I'd better stay 12v. :D I can do enough damage with one of those

I'm building my car for the road, track days and possible sprints. Rallying is a no, no......all that time and energy. I've watched too many of those videos and I don't fancy being in them :(
At present I'm in build mode so it's a balance of spend, spend and dream, dream...... From what has been stated, I'll go with a 24V CL with a chip and go from there I think.
There's also the subject of weight, the enemy. Big "savings" can be made there. Does the club have a weight watchers competition, cars not drivers?

Allen
