I imagine that this would have come up before, but so far, my browsings have not proven to be fruitful. I guess what I'd like to know is what would it take to buy one in the US? I'm not really in a position to build one myself, so I'd really like to know how many there are in the states...and if they ever come up for sale, and a ballpark price I can expect to pay.
TIA

I don't know if anyone has ever put together a comprehensive list, but I'm only aware of 7 Stratos replicas in the United States. 6 Hawks, and one Corse. Of those 7, only 2 are currently complete, drivable cars - both Hawks. Of the remaining 5, one is currently undergoing restoration by its owner, and the other 4 are either unstarted or partially built kits.
In the last 6 years, I know of two "running" US Stratos replicas that were for sale. The first was a partially finished Hawk in Texas with a 2-liter Lancia Beta engine. It was a roller, but the interior wasn't installed, and the body still needed finishing. The seller was asking $18,000 at the time (1999-2000), but I don't know what happened to the car. I never spoke directly with the seller.
The other car that was for sale was just a couple of years ago. It's a Hawk that's had a Ferrari 308 engine installed. It's fully registered and roadworthy, although the interior wasn't completely finished (no carpet or trim). It was last titled in Pennsylvania, and the seller was asking $40,000 for it. Again, I didn't speak directly with the seller, and don't know if the car ever sold.
The lone US Corse is currently for sale, but it's an unstarted kit. If you're not in a position to build it yourself, it's probably not much interest to you.
If you've got deep pockets, you could hire someone to build a kit for you. It'd probably add at least another $15,000 to an already expensive kit, but it saves you the trouble of doing it yourself. Figure on spending at least $55,000 for a turn-key customer car built from a new kit.
It'll be simpler to contract someone in the US, since trying to import a completed car from overseas is problematic. There are a few guys in the UK who build Stratos kits for customers, but they'd need to completely dismantle the car prior to shipping it to get it through customs. It'd be easier to reassemble a car than to build from scratch, but it's still a lot of time and effort.
I hope that answered your questions. If there's anything I missed, let me know.

That's mighty helpful, thanks. Doesn't look good for me since I'm not made of money. I'll just have to be patient and keep my eyes out...or save the project for "one day".

PSpintoVeloce,
I have some pictures of the Corse I can send to you if you like.
BTW: That BBS rimmed GT4... is it the one from Milbrae? I saw it about a month ago on Cragislist. It was $17K as I recall. Have you guys gone though the car and checked it out?
See Scott... I keep getting sidetracked!!!!
PS: PS...<pun intended>... I drove the black 365GT 2+2 the guy from So. Africa had at your place a few years ago. I wish I'd bought it now!
